We go back to the Kruger at the end of the South African summer. We return to Skukuza for our last three days of the trip and what a last few days it was! Wild dogs and leopards on our last days in the park! It couldn't have been a better farewell.

Les, We can't thank you enough for your videos of the Kruger and Kgalagadi. We have enjoyed them all!! Your narration style and length are perfect for us and we have learned a great deal. Your videography is great and really provides a tremendous opportunity to "see" the animals. Two weeks from now we are headed to South Africa for our first visit and tour. Of the 15 days we get only 2 1/2 in the Kruger. Your videos have already made us want to somehow find more time there. We hope you do another visit with more videos so that we can see what we won't see this time! Thank you! Sheldon and Carol-Ann

We had a fabulous trip to South Africa and Kruger. You are absolutely right that two days is only a teaser. It did make us appreciate the amount of time and effort that you put into filming and editing your videos, however. Thank you again for sharing your videos with us and the rest of the KZfaq community. We are now hooked on Kruger and your work. We look forward to future episodes of your time in the Kruger. Sheldon

Thank you so much for a lovely series! We know the Kruger well, but love to look at it from the perspective of an overseas visitor who obviously love the place. And we love your presentation style, honest but always positive. I see that you have even made a wood fire to braai something this time around ! Thank you also for naming all the birds, it is quite frustrating to look at good footage of birds (other videos) and not always know for sure what it is. We prefer August to October - the veld is more open and the likelihood of rain much less - important especially because we are camping
@oldcodgerwithacamera
@oldcodgerwithacamera 6 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your comments. I agree with you about the frustration of not knowing the bird names. When I started making these videos I worked on the basis that many people watching may never have been on safari and so might not even know the names of the animals let alone the birds. You can't expect everybody to know the difference between a Tsessebe and a Kudu and it's even surprising that many people confuse wild dogs and hyaenas. As to the birds!!! We have tried to experience Kruger in all different seasons and next year hope to go back in August for the reasons you state.

What can I say, it was amazing, absolutely loved the north and blessed with many more lion and leopard sightings than we expected. No cheetah though but hey ho. High 40's for over a week, thank god for air conditioning. Berg-en-Dal was fantastic, big 5 every day. I could go on and on. Next year, looking at Northern Namibia and the Caprivi Strip, now that's some planning! Enjoy the cruise and Merry Christmas to you both .

Hi Les , another great series . Must say you were brave to go to the Kruger in Feb/Mar. Apart from the rain , just to hot and that I say as a South African . We prefer Aug/Sept at the latest. You still had amazing sightings with limited access & those wild dog sightings make me jealous. Enjoy your cruise , maybe do a Vlog about that to & maybe 1 day we can meet up in the Kruger as we try to go every year as well . Send me a private message when you able to. Take care & thanks for your visits to SA & supporting conservation by visiting our Parks

Many thanks for your comment. We wanted to try the Kruger in every season but I think we have now settled on the time you prefer and are planning on going in August next year. Strangely, although it was hot (and the Kgalagadi got up to 43 °) it didn't seem as hot as we thought it might. It's quite a dry heat in SA as opposed to the more humid weather we get in the UK so I guess it's down to what you are used to.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to seeing what you post next year. Sadly it’s going to be a few years till we get back there, the world is just too darn big and there’s never enough time or money to see it all but we’re headed to ZIM in 2025 and can’t wait.

Thanks for another great video series! Where and when is your next trip? Curious why you had your rental car cleaned... do you get charged for cleaning by rental agency? Advice on rental company? Have you been to Madagascar? Sounds like a hired guide would be needed for that adventure. Do you stay in Petoria or Joburg on arrival? Is it safe?
@oldcodgerwithacamera
@oldcodgerwithacamera 6 ай бұрын
We've just come back from a month long cruise around the Mediterranean, not exactly the Kruger but actually more exhausting! Hoping to go back to the Kruger in August next year. We've been stung with cleaning chanrges by rental companies before, anything from £35 to £60 so a fiver at Skukuza was well worth it. Driving on the gravel roads in the Kgalagadi and Kruger with the windows open will make the inside of the car incredibly dusty and a nightmare to clean yourself. We have tried half a dozen different rental companies and none seem better or worse than the others. Tempest was the one we used for this trip and, because the car was so clean when we took it back, they only spent about 30 seconds looking it over. Never been to Madagascar so can't help there. Always stay in Johannesburg close to the airport. City Lodge is right next to the airport (you don't even have to go out onto the street) but can be a little expensive. Some of the cheaper lodges in Kempton Park are now in fully gated areas and so are quite safe. It can be a little scary driving to them in the dark but we've never had any problems.
