I first played this game around 1986, when I was 10 years old. I remember the spider’s web was really annoying but at some point I figured it out and it was not a problem anymore. Actually, Krull always had its place in my list of Atari’s best games of all time.

Actually one of my most played 2600 for several months after I got it. Had seen the film in the theater as a kid - the game was infinitely better than the movie. For it's time, it had so much more to offer than most games. Can't agree with your take at all on it being a bad game. It was in that transitional period of games that you can just pick up and play for a few minutes to one of those games you had to get better at, pick up complex patterns and grind your way through to consistently beating. I always considered this one of the stand out games in my collection. The spider web stage could have been a bit less clunky by design, though. I agree with that. Review came out a bit more like "it was a bad game cuz it was hard" ;)

I can see where you're coming from. I'm no stranger to difficult games. But I just thought this game was poorly designed. Rather than taking the elements that made the game fun, they doubled down on the clunky parts

Cheers for putting in all the effort to make this presentation, much appreciated. Krull (the movie) was like a rugpull high fantasy film from the eighties. It had all the makings and budget of an absolutely brilliant film, however the third act felt like it was found in the discard pile of a writers room somewhere. So frustrating - elements of it were up there with the best. The glaive itself should've had a film on its own. The 2600 game looks above par for some of the movie tie-ins (do I even have to mention ET??). Sadly, due to limitations, the console had to rely on levels of frustration in its games to prolong playability. I was never aware this game existed until today.

Thanks so much for the fantastic comment! I honestly can't even remember if I saw the film or not. But, the game was a really bad time for me... a lot of the people in the comments are huge fans of both it and the movie... I had NO idea it had such a big following

fun fact how 70s electric co, willy wanka and krull are CONNECTED denise in short circus on electric co was violet , the teacher in wanka was the magician in krull morgan freedman was several charicters on EC on letterman on EC joan rivers was announcer zero mostel from fiddler on roof (teveya) spell binder and gene wilder WW was letterman

Good movie, didn't care for the game back in the day, because i didn't really understand it, but there's a method to the madness and is not actually too bad of a game.

Hard game, but I managed to rescue Lysette Anthony (Lyssa), you just have to be good. Some Atari VCS were very hard to complete, but that was the fun of it.. 2600 games was for 'real' players!!!

It was tough. I've played my fair share of 2600 games, and I'm usually pretty decent at them. But, this one I never quite got the hang of

This is a brilliant game, one of the best movie adaptations. The web is frustrating but you can successfully jump over them with practice. It’s a 9/10 for me.

You couldn't capture off your VCR because all VCRs made after 1998 are required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to have Macrovision copy protection, which deliberately messes with the video signal in ways such that televisions are unaffected (because they have compensation circuitry) but video capturing and recording equipment just can't get a good picture. You're hosed using this method, as it's a federal crime to circumvent Macrovision. An RF demodulator should do the trick, but it won't have as good an output as composite-modding your Atari.

I loved playing Krull as a kid. But yes it’s impossibly hard.

@@RNGGaming-nv6zi That's the great thing about being a kid, you have infinite time and limited budget so I had no choice but to figure it out. Believe it or not, the web is not the hardest part. The boss is the hardest, and I've only beat it a few select times. The web has a trick, and from (likely false) memory, I think you have to jump and run slightly backwards and jump again very rapidly in succession in exact locations at the correct angle/approach to defeat the web. Once you have mastered the trick it gets way easier but still the smallest mis-timing and you are messed, and you have to be ready exactly to time it to the sun (as you have already noted). I can fully appreciate without figuring out the trick that this game is just too impossibly hard to play.

@duelmonitor I kind of figured out that trick on the web... but I could never get past more than 4 or 5 throws against the boss. It's just too cheap!

Haha… Krull is the name of their planet. See the movie, it’s not too bad (better than the game. There’s several young stars in it before they get famous including Robbie Coltrane and Liam Neeson). Yeah, I don’t understand why people want me to put this game in one of my videos, I think it’s mediocre at best.

I feel like I've actually seen the movie... but my brain is so full of useless crap that I can't remember. There's some content to be made from playing this game... if you can frame it the right way. yaaa, neat movie...bad game. Try the atari game Yars Revenge. It's like the Krull boss fight level, but without the spider and horse crap

@@RNGGaming-nv6zi i remember seeing movie in 83 w police accadamy , i called the glave the krull too. in the movie they see a blind seeer 1st , who the slayers kill . then went to see the widdow of the web. when seeing movie/ playing game i thought why is this seeer here where the web
