After Mrs. Jennings finished waving I jokingly thought how cool it would be for her to turn around, look into her home, open her arms and effusively shout, "SHERIDAN!"

Patricia Routledge (later the "Keeping Up Appearances" lady) is a huge asset to this stiff production as the effusive Mrs. Jennings. Joanna David probably looks like Elinor more than anyone else who has attempted this character, but seems to be the victim of poor direction; half the time she appears to be waiting for someone off camera to shout her lines to her.

+Lampritch I think she does an excellent job of conveying emotion along with a sense of the reserve necessary for maintaining the proper sense of propriety. Patricia Routledge does an great job of bringing out the character of MRs Jennings in order to bring life to this production. Hers is one of the characters that are written for that sort of purpose. Some of the other actors attempt to do the same with their characters but it comes off as over acting. It takes talent to bring out the max in a character while still keeping it believable and not going over the top. Some others in this cast overact and it borders close to parody and farce.

Have to agree with every point. "Stiff" is the word! The only other other character that comes (quietly) to life is Edward.

These women had no domestic worries at all. They had time to improve their music, reading and sewing.

Even in the book Colonel Brandon is a creeping Jesus. The one in this version has it down to a tee.
