In this episode of Back in the Garage, I delete the charcoal canister on my 2021 KTM 890 ADV R using a Rottweiler Canister Delete Kit (linked below). The process will be the same on the KTM 790 and 890 ADV/ADV R bikes as well as the Husqvarna Norden 901 (with one exception). On the Norden 901 you will need a cut off tool to make a slight modification to a bracket.

I did this exact thing on my Norden and installed a Denali Sound bomb split where the canister was👍🏼

I appreciate the videos. Big help. You forgot to mention removing the bracket that holds the canister. I weighted mine hoping to see more than 2 lbs, nope. Total weight shed, 1lb 11.65oz.

Big fan! My buddy and used your vids to do the Arrow midpipe cat delete on my 890 (for offroad and race purposes only obviously) and it was super helpful, especially for the skid plate section. Thanks :) What do you see as the main benefit(s) of deleting the canister? I’m about to do the Rottie Pro Intake and have been thinking about also deleting the canister after watching this.

The main benefit (for me) is that the new sound drains out the terrible engine sounds the bike makes in stock formation.

I'm confused about which hose is modified... is it the drain hose that's extended? Which side on the tank does it go back into?

So the only two hoses left are the two starting from the top of the fuel tank right? Water drain is on the right, fuel on the left correct? The fuel one should go straight to the floor, the water drain isnt that relevant right? Thanks

I found out that the dongle failed. Rottweiller sent me another one no questions asked but it took 3 months to get here since my motorcycle is in Ecuador.

Thanks for the video… long time subscriber here. Question, couldn’t you just leave the solenoid in tact and do the rest of the canister-ectomy to remove the charcoal bit? Save your tank and fuel pump in the long run without having to buy a $30 screw and resistor from Rottweiler?

Was thinking exactly the same... so you don´t have to buy the dongle... and just leave the solenoid/valve disconnected from all hoses?

I did this modification and now am getting a yellow engine light and it will reset at times but always comes back on. The code indicates the charcoal canister. I'm thinking that the dongle is bad. Has anyone else had this problem?

@@2WR I have read on the ADV forum that several people had issues with the dongle that they received from Rottweiler and they had to be replaced. So maybe it doesn't completely eliminate a potential problem. After my dealer had my 2020 790 for almost 12 months fixing the Immobilizer error I hate to introduce anything that could be a problem. (replaced the key switch 3 times followed by a complete wire harness and then a new battery.) When I got it back I traded it on a 2022 890.

The single is simply a plug with a resistor in it. Bad resistor = doesn’t work. Could make them yourself for a few dollars, a soldering iron and heat gun.

@@2WR just leave the solenoid installed. Too many problems with dongles and that's all you are really paying for.
