Hi, I am Tom and I am the rider on the KTM 1190R that is in the vid. I have been very entertained by the comments on this vid and thought I should provide some facts. There is another guy on a non R racing in the 5th race in this vid. My KTM Adventure 1190R is a 2014 and weighed almost 500lbs on the track scale. If I removed racking and crash bars and stuff it might get to 470ish. I weigh 215 in my birthday suit so around 240 suited to race. The front tire is a Continental TKC 80 and the back is a TKC 70. If you look closely you will see that the front of the bike is strapped to lower it. The bike has a Yosh pipe, power commander and Rottweiler air cleaner. My best pass was a 11.10 at 124mph. I typically 60 ft in the high 1.60's. The vid shows bracket racing where each rider provides a dial in to the hundredth of a second and the slower rider gets a head start by the difference of the dial ins. I am no Chris Birch but have taken the bike on some reasonably challenging off road sections including steep creek bed's with baby head boulders on the ground. The weekend immediately before this race I rode offroad to the Northwest corner of Vancouver Island. The weekend after I rode in the KTM Adventure Rallye in SilverStar Mountain in Kamloops...all without major changes. My team won the Ready to Race award for being the fastest group on the A loop (offroad). I don't hate any make of motorcycle and love them all and the first race was against my good friend on his Victory. This has been the most amazing motorcycle I have owned (out of over 30) but sadly I have sold it. Hoping to get one of the first KTM Adventure 790's to come to Canada!

It just amazes me at how riders slam other bikes. Are we all a bunch of kids in a sandbox? As long as we’re having fun, isn’t that the point. I have both a Harley and a KTM 1190. They are both great bikes in their own right. My Harley gives me the feeling of driving an old muscle car. Might not be the fastest out there, but it’s far from slow and most importantly it makes me smile. My KTM is like a sharp knife in that it’s edgy and will slice up everything in its path. Both are great bikes in their respective ways.

Slaying Harley's on off-road tires 🤣🤣🤣

I roadraced motorcycles years ago. I was in a 24 hour race with three other riders we shared a 750 Honda. Also entered in that race was a factory prepped harley. The first machine to expire was the Harley Davidson. I just strolled past their pit while the mechanics were evaluating the damage on the Harley. I had never seen a motorcycle engine that looked like it exploded . I could see the crankshaft and the rod for the front cylinder thru a hole about as big as a grapefruit in that engine. It did not even last half an hour.. that was a factory effort at Nelson ledges during One of their 24 Hour roadraces they held there every June... Just a footnote, The Ducati that won the 24 hour race that year, also won the 24 hour race the previous year. The only work that was done on the Ducati between the two 24hr races a year apart,was an oil change I still can’t rationalize why anyone would buy a Harley.. I mean it defies logic

I always get a chuckle when a harley is making a crap load of noise and barely accelerating. If all you want to do is go in a straight line down the freeway get poor millage and spend lots of time in the shop talking to other harley owners, then go get one. But if you really want to have some fun I suggest you buy a motorcycle. Its a great experience.

I thought the sportster did do very well considering it has even less cui size, torque and horsepower than the other bikes. What was it a 1200ccm or 883ccm displacement?

That high Torque really helped push that Harley off the line!!

Imagine bringing your shiny, exceptionally overpriced water pump down to the only place it has a chance, a straight line, and just getting dusted again and again by a dirt bike... A harley is as much a motorcycle as a golf buggy is a car.

Why can't Harley riders just admit that they ride for the looks and sound. Pro drag Harley engines are not even close to being a stock Harley motor, so to brag that Harleys are fast on the quarter mile is a moot point.

that KTM has the best brakes in town, wicked motor, very effective frame and handling. it will pound out sand, dirt roads, eat up streets and highways and all. the HD comes in different colors and has different pipes.

I'm sorry but Harleys have never been about performance. I don't know why Harley owners think they have something to prove. It's no contest. The Japanese just know what they're doing when it comes to designing motorcycles. It's historically written. After we won WW2 we didn't allow them to design airplanes so most of there brightest engineers went from airplanes to motorcycles. That's why most manufacturers don't have an answer for the big top 4. Ducati has come close but Harleys will never match up. They don't want to anyway. They're more about style than form or function.

They wanted to show how fast Harley is - but we see that KTM is faster. By the way: In Europe only old fat guys drive Harleys - and they drive always slowly because of the high repair costs.

Harleys are great for what they are. Vintage designed motors that are reliable and make passable power. You cant expect that to keep up with a modern liquid cooled, high compression, high RPM motor. Its like winning the field day race at the retirement home.

Only thing a Harley Davidson can win at is being the most expensive to repair. A Harley couldn't beat a snail across the finish line.

That first race is a Victory not a Harley, but that being said a Victory produces more torque and horsepower than a Harley Davidson.

I ride a Moto Guzzi 1100. One afternoon I tried to catch one of these big KTMs but could not get anywhere near it!

I think the dual sports bike has a tall 1st gear that's why it doesn't lunch as hard. At the same time, the engine is designed to have more power up in the higher revv range compared to cruisers.

was the second bike the VRod Destroyer? If so, it should have won that race; it's faster bike (it runs 9s on the quarter-mile). If not, those bikes are probably evenly matched (Vrod v superduke) ...ish

I just pulled up next to a brand new 1290 Adventure yesterday on my 650 V-Strom. When the light turned green, he took off, so I punched it to see the difference. MAN, I left him in the dust! Just kidding. He made me feel like I was standing still. Then we both got onto the freeway on a left hand sweeper. Even though he had adventure tires on it, he dusted me on the corner too. He was younger and a better rider. I'm 63 so don't want to risk going down on these old bones.

I have a Harley (Roadking) and a KTM 1290 SA. The KTM is the funnest bike I've ever owned. And at 62 years old I've owned a bunch. It is scary fast. 160HP on a 450 lb scooter makes for fast times.....Road it up Pikes Peak last summer and all over in Moab,UT. Amazing motorcycle!

I may be wrong of course but I doubt the Harley (or Victory ) riders expected to win, they know they're running against a faster bike. My bet is they are just having fun and really just wanted to see how fast they could get their bikes down the track. If so , I say good for them , enjoy the ride you have.

Ah, Bracket Racing, like playing with a handicap in golf to make the play more interesting. I have the 1290 Super Adventure R, and yes, it will smoke a lot of bikes if one can keep the front wheel anywhere near the ground. Same torque as a Hayabusa, but not the same wheelbase or gearing :-)
