I finally got a chance to install the snowblower on my Kubota tractor and do some well needed maintenance including the auger drive gear oil change. I also put chains on the tires and boy was that a game changer!

▬ ABOUT US ▬
We are Rich & Kathie, a retired couple building our dream home: A SUPER ENERGY EFFICIENT OFF GRID earth sheltered home in the Adirondacks!
The house will be covered with about 30" of soil which helps to maintain an internal temperature between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter & summer respectively. This means that in the winter we will only need minimal heat that we plan to provide with a small wood burning stove and we shouldn't need any air conditioning in the summer at all!
With inflation right now, the energy efficiency of this house is a HUGE Plus! But, it also means that we have a super tight budget that is getting tighter by the day. For this reason we DIY everything we reasonably can and find creative ways to save money such as repurposing.
Please subscribe and join us to see how we manage the challenges of staying in budget and exactly how energy efficient this house actually is when it is done!
We appreciate all your support :-)

This was a very good vidio to produce for us....,just a little too soon. Your "Super Snazzy" & Expensive front-mount Kubota Snow Blower was still "No Match" for that "Super-Wet-Slush". I like to keep a solid-hard Base BEFORE l "Get all Excited" to Eradicate ANYTHING under 6". As a suggestion; Best just to "Track-it-in",& "Windrow it over"( plow on it) Delicately. Those "Chain-drives" WILL Always be a BIG Help....; just have to learn to use the Stearing-turning Brakes! ( unless you get tire-chains for the front). That Backhoe Attachment SURE offers a LOT of Weight, BUT a Simple 6 foot "back-blade " WILL solve ALL your Chanlenges. Thank you Sir for the Excelent vidio and happy safe Snow Management Procedures. Best wishes with all your endeavours.

The weather in my little patch of N.S. has changed alot over the years. This year we have had very little snow. And we have had hi wind and rain events. Today we are having the wind without too much precip. 🙂👍👍🇨🇦

Snow like storm number #2 (we got the same from that system in Vermont) is one of the reasons why I ended up going with a meteor pull behind inverted blower. I leave my loader on and can use the bucket to clean up the slush the blower doesn’t get, and back drag it out of places if needed. That and doing fire wood all winter having the loader for the grapple is key. This wet stuff certainly isn’t fun! We were fighting clogs as well. Your driveway and parking areas are getting to the point that a box blade or land plane should really be in your future. Much faster and easier for spreading fresh gravel and maintaining it in the spring then having to back drag everywhere. Glad to see the house is staying warm and dry. It’s been a long road for you guys and getting to see you finish interior projects like those fantastic cabinets is really nice.

Thanks. And all you said makes sense. I have been on the lookout for a York rake and I was really hoping to get a sander for the back of the tractor because ice is a big issue in the winter in that hill too.

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid a sander would be really nice. I’ve considered finding a beat up one to build an attachment for on the bucket, then maybe power it with my third function hydros. Just to run over everything after I’ve cleaned snow. With the length of your drive I bet a land plane would really do the trick for most maintenance.

3 consecutive storms. Wow. Welcome to the Adironskimo Life. It would be nice if there was a heating element for that chute on the Kubota, to prevent ice build-up. It would have to be externally mounted, naturally, but maybe it could be done? Oh, and where's the cup holder in the cab for your hot toddy?

Lol. There’s definitely a cup holder but a heating element for the chute is a very creative idea! Hope the storm didn’t effect you all down there too much👍

Big little worker, your Kubota. Interesting, it has guards for steering pull rods. I've bent mine on my Mitsubishi once, pushing it against concrete base, while trying to squeeze as close as possible.

I've been using my UTV with the plow, and yesterday was a real test with that heavy, wet snow. After several tries, I did manage to clear up the hill and out to the road. Still a bit slushy, but drivable with the Rav 4 now. I added a piece of schedule 80 PVC pipe tp the bottom edge of the plow so it skids over the gravel without digging in.. Works like a charm, but likely will wear out quickly. Easy to replace.

Hello, We had a similar problem with the gravel washing away on the driveway. We installed “water bars” and that solved the problem. Check out are video on water bars.

I was told to put wheel spacers, so the chains don't damage anything there 1 3/8" spacers from Kubota. I have a B-2650 with no cab with a 3pt snow blower. I love it! great video

Yes, I was told the same but I was also told at the same time that it wasn't really necessary. Since they were so expensive I chose not to do it and I haven't had any problems. I may add them in the future if I can come up with extra $

We got 4" of snow and it was mostly gone in 24 hours. We are so glad we don't have to do the snow blower procedure! but can sympathies with your issues with snow as our south facing part of our driveway is covered in ice and snow even today. It is virtually flat so no issues for us. Seems like a major ordeal to switch to your snow blower attachment LOL.

ceramic spray wax for the chute and auger area to keep wet snow from sticking, and a $30.00 impeller kit off amazon will improve ur throwing distance and keep ur impeller pushing the snow out better.... just some thoughts on improvement, i cant say much... i couldnt afford that tractor lol

Ugh... slush. Last winter up in the northern ADKs we had a very warm day, resulting in almost a foot of slush on our unpaved drive. Took me hours to push that water using only my compact tractor with just a loader bucket. What a mess. Your road washout sucked! Nice work patching before the snow.

It’s a balance between being high and low. If I go any higher they dig down into the gravel driveway. If I had a good base it wouldn’t be a problem but weather’s been weird this year
