My dad has a MX5200 and we basically use it for everything. We used to use a D15 allis chalmers for bailing hay, and a massey ferguson 202 industrial(MF 35 derivative) for loader tasks. Since the mx, the massey is gone, and the D15 is down to just moving wagons around. The mx is really closer to the tractors of old days, being fully capable of powering a small square baler, a small haybine, a 2 or 3 bottom plow. Not big farming, but it can do a great job for small farms like ours. 15 acres of hay used to be alot of work, and the d15 worked, but baler would mess up every 20 bales, we thought it was a baler issue. But hooked up to the MX, it ran all second cutting with no fails. It ran the baler just smoother and more consistant. It is a hydrostatic as well, and i had my reservations but it works better than expected. I would not hesitate buying one of these tractors for a small farmer. I have a L2501 sized Kioti ck2610H, that size is very handy as well, but most i use is a one bottom plow, a finish mower, a rear blade and moving manure and hauling wood. It is funny because the MF 35 used to be considered a utility tractor and the D15 used to be a main farming tractor, but times change. But there is still a few small people who farm like the days of old using equipment from the 60s. In my mind, this was the golden age of farming. Small scale enough to have way more family farms making a living without huge equipment costs. More diverse crops( not just corn, soys, and wheat in most locations) Back when the MX would have been the life blood of that family farm and did everything. Then have the MF for other tasks, like hauling silage wagons, or hay wagons, or planting. I love new equipment. and think its awesome, but the prices of grain right now just do not justify the expense for the equipment. You buy a kubota mx for 30,000 grand, and farm 100 to 300 acres, and have some livestock, you can make a living. It would be easy to pay off the equipment and have lower margins. GPS is great, but people did go without. I think all the technology is great and helps people be more productive, but with crop prices down to 3.00 for corn and 9 dollars for soys, those prices are like the same as the 80s. Maybe we need to be farming like the 80s to keep profitability. I have seen way to many dairy farms think the solution to money woes, is just to add more animals. Rather than just have your family take care of 100 cows lets hire 35 people to take care of 3000. Which is great and adds labor, but used to be those 35 people had their own farm and bought their own inputs and offered lots of jobs in the retail industry. Family farms are dying. But when i look at the mx and look at The d15, it makes me think it could still keep going. A living on smaller land with smaller equipment is still possible. Just gotta put some work into it and diversify. Great video as always!

Hi Messicks : Your videos keep getting better...love my M105s Low Profile ... I use it on a 5 acre farm...anything in the M series gets my vote.... I was raised and live on a farm and a tractor with a little more HP comes in handy...no one ever wishes they had less HP...

Thank you for all of these videos. I had it dead set in my head that the M5660SU was the smallest tractor I was going to get. Then I started watching your videos and realized the most common tasks I had were more in line with the smaller L series. I settled on the L3901 with a bunch of implements and it hasn't let me down yet. As a bonus, with the grapple I was able to help family remove a bunch of trees they had cut down without destroying their yard (your video on tires helped me settle on the R4's). This whole video series of yours has really taken a lot of the "MORE PWRRRRR" out of the equation. I'm sure I'm not the only one you've helped.

I looked at a M5660 But I think it is too much tractor for me, and the MX5800 is a better fix with the HST trans. thanks for the video. Love all your videos. Please keep them coming.

I just wish Kubota did the shuttle shift in the mx series. I really like the shuttle shift transmission. I'm not real big on the hydro or the treadle peddle.

I have an MX5800 hydro and continue to be impressed with its power and lifting ability. I traded a New holland boomer 45hp tractor in for the MX5800 hoping to gain a little more power to run the the brush hog and log winch. Wow, the MX5800 feels like I doubled the horsepower!

I do wish more people would do comparisons like this for the other big name brands. Their lines are just as confusing and convoluted in the compact/ compact utility/ utility areas, lol. I think your advice applies equally well to them, too: "What is it you're trying to DO with it?" Sure I can get a (for example) JD in the 50 hp range in several different series from 3 up to 5- but do you REALLY want to pull a square baler and wagon around with a 3 series tractor? Or drive a full wagonload of hay home with one? Not me!
