Those little blue chocolates they give you are exclusive and very yummy - and so they should be, it is the most expensive chocolate in the world given the cabin cost 😂. With the nightcap - when I travelled Perth to Sydney, the attendant asked if I would like Baileys or Port. My response - yes. So I was duly left one of each for the 3 nights..

If train travel is your passion then there are cheaper options on this train.....Also if U ever drive from Adelaide to Sydney there is a lot of towns and hotels along they way so don;t think i your car breaks down U R out there all by yourself......Plenty of familes try this route and the towns along the way are nice too.

Way back then, we used go to the Biennial Festival in Adelaide. One year, we decided that we'd catch the Indian Pacific back to Sydney. To do so, we had to take a Sth Australian day train from Adelaide to Peterborough and change. That was a bit of a nuisance, but nothing much. The day train was comfortable and was well timed. It was slow.. We enjoyed seeing the change in scenery as we travelled north, but having done the journey once had no thought of a repeat. We were back in Adelaide a few Festivals later at the time pilots were going on strikes. One morning we awoke to news that there would be a strike which would interfere with our return. Now, we do like Adelaide, but had work to get back to, so we straightaway dashed to Adelaide station and booked our return journey. In the couple of years since out previous journey, there'd been work to the tracks and standard gauge trains, including the Indian Pacific came into West Adelaide eliminating the change at Peterborough. Again, a pleasant train journey back. Having a double compartment each time meant that we had our own shower and loo, with no need to journey down the corridor. On each occasion, the food was far from adventurous but good cooking of quality ingredients. All staff were pleasant. We ventured once to the Lounge Car, but it was not the sort of place we enjoyed - but obviously it appealed to others..

Thanks for taking one for the team Kuga. Welcome to Australia - land of high prices and low value. Back in the 90's there used to be a thing called the Caper fare on the Indian Pacific - we would get that from Perth to Sydney. All you got was the seat for 4 days. Really helped to smuggle on a lot of booze to make the time pass. I think it was even cheaper than getting the bus across. Anyway, thanks again. Always wanted to see what was inside the fancy bit. Lol.

Hi Kuga. Thanks for the video, and your sense of humour. I am sorry you felt alone while dining. The sad fact is that, although it's a wonderful journey, on an amazing train, it's price is by far too extravagant for many Aussies. So the travellers on it tend to be old, retired people , spending their children's inheritance (😂) ...or international tourists.and mostly they travel as couples. I live on the East coast of Australia, and have family in Perth . I would prefer to travel by train, but the reality is flying is cheaper ( depending of course, on class of travel, and the airline). There is sadly no " public" train service from the East to the West , so if a person cannot fly, this train is the only option, and can often be booked out at least 12-18 months into the future 🤯😮
