Alfven is amazing, i can't believe more people haven't heard of his works
@donaldauguston97402 жыл бұрын
None of the classical radio stations play his works - so we never hear them and we don't like listening to things we don't know. It's a total catch-22.

Superba sinfonia. Complimenti.

Another great symphony that should be added to the standard repertoire in our concert halls. The painting of Mount Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps is beautiful as well.

I have listened to this symphony many times, never able to stick with it. Today I listened and I was taken in its beauty on all levels - structure, melody, orchestration. Amazing and funny how this happens, but it does. A mystery of the ear and brain. Anyway, a great and grand symphony. I will move on to his others. Thanks for posting.

I'm totally amazed, what grand work! As a Scandinavian, I'm so hugely proud of my neighbor Hugo Alven! I should add, this Symphony is the best I've heard from eastwards, then Sibelius came along, and then the journey continues eastwards and at last we goal the Japanese way of enhancing western music really high up as it's like a boomerang tossing back to us western people. You see?

Composers from smaller nations tend to.

This symphony is very rich and creative. The themes and melodic cells are wonderful. THey are served by an impressive art of orchestration. The only piece from Alfven which is known is his swedish rhapsody Midsommarvaka, Op.19 and its famous opening theme. . This creates an ambiguous situation. Since after all this piece is anecdotic, people tend to conclude that Alfven is a melodically gifted but a minor composer, which is absolutely not the case. His five symphonies, all five rather developed and complex, prove that he is a great composer indeed.

Thank you KD2 for posting these unknown (to us in the commercially controlled desert of the arts called the U.S.) composers and their works. I don't know how they're received or esteemed in Europe, but if it were not for you and your drive to show us the whole panorama of music, we'd still be starving here in the U.S. PBS keeps telling us they bring knowledge to the forefront, balderdash!!! That's their mantra while the semi-annual "beggars banquet" is going on. You bring more joy and love of music than PBS ever dreamt of. Thank you again for the expansion of my musical horizons. Thanks from Caldwell, Idaho, please keep up the fantastic work!!!!

I hear shades of Glazunov (and of course a bit of Beethoven) in this illuminating, gorgeous Symphony.

Some beautiful writing ... at times reminds me of the earlier Dvorak, with brucknerian majesty and some hints of more advanced harmony. A great contrast to the nocturnal, emotional fourth. Btw for anyone who likes alfven, they might want to check out the symphonies of Kurt atterberg who succeeded him as Sweden's greatest symphonist.

It is truly a gem, every movement has its strengths and memorable parts. The final movement especially, gives so much bliss upon hearing it. The scherzo reminds me of Lachner's Scherzos, nevertheless, Alfven is Alfven, highly recognisable.

While I have not taken as readily to this symphony as I have to Alfven's first two efforts in the genre, the scherzo is certainly a first rate piece of writing. Still, if it's by Alfven I generally have respect for it.

His time is here and now blasting through my speaker 🔊 set. Every one I know that enjoys good orchestral music 🎶 gets remarkable symphonies like this directed into their realm. Alvéns getting a whole lot more attention thanks to the electronic technology. Before recently the only work of his I had heard before was the mountain king. I am absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of his symphonies.
