Lumi-Weld STICKS!!! I wish I had a dollar for every cycle case I've repaired with them! Stronger and BETTER than heli-arcing or MIG. Just a good propane torch (MAPP is optional) and Lumi-Welds and if you have a hole up to the size of your fist, you can build-it up in stages. I repaired a two-stroke's main bearing with Lumi-Weld.

This is good advice for all beginner welders. If you learn to weld with acetylene on different types of metal it will teach you how material reacts and help you become a good welder in the future. I’ve been welding for 30 years and I learned how to weld with a torch first. It gave me a good solid base to build on and today I can weld any material with the correct welder but it all started with a torch and some rod.

I grew up being taught to use an Oxy/cetylene rig to weld mild steel using the coat hangers from the dry cleaners as filler. Worked great, and finally had a use for all those damn coat hangers.
@72Dexter72Manley726 ай бұрын
Same here. Was taught by some old school guys in the 1980's. In the 2000's I was the only one in the shop who could braze parts back together. Fix damage to exhausts that other techs caused. Lol Add hangers to pipes. Braze an 02 bung on an exhaust. Used the coat hangers when we ran out of brazing rods back in the day. Hell I even brazed together a battery hold down for my old Datsun. But back in the day they started putting a filler inside the coat silver coat hangers and it would pop and carry on like crazy. So we requested they use the bronze colored coat hangers for our uniforms. 🙄

That was very impressive! What are your aluminium filler rods made of? They obviously melt at a lower temp than the housing. Are you using the steel welding rod as an abrader to break through the oxide film as well as smooth the weld? Last question, are you running a slight carburising flame? I really loved your video. Its nice to see age old craft practice. Great Job !!!

Welding AL. try putting the piece on a hotplate to help keep it hot, use a filler to weld in rather than wasting so much time, gas and rod filling a hole this big. Try, if practical, welding from the inside so there is less grinding to finish what may need to be precise for mechanical clearances.

You've ever seen a roadside flare the red coloration coming out of the flayer is the magnesium burning the reason it burns under water is because it does not need oxygen it comes from the magnesium which is why you can stick a piece of magnesium on fire in between two sheets of dry ice and it will not go out
@gibbogle4 ай бұрын
Oxygen does not come from magnesium, they are different elements. Dry ice is carbon dioxide, CO2, which does contain oxygen.
