Took out my Gansai watercolors that haven’t been used in a while and noticed how nice they are to paint with…. I noticed that the vibrancy is lovely and the opacity is somewhat between watercolor and gouache. Thanks for the inspiration Sharon. I loved your tutorial!

My favorite watercolor is the kuretake. Working on getting them all.

I bought a set at my magical art supply thrift store (WHO GIVES A SCRAP, Colorado Springs,CO), and felt like I had found treasure! I love the ever so slight sheen for my botanical studies. My dandelions are spectacular. I don’t think there is room for snobbery in art. Use what pleases you and allows you to successfully complete your vision. I’m not above using paper bags, tissue, and book pages. My work was leases me and my clients.

That’s awesome. And an art thrift store? That sounds so cool.

Your so right about getting frustrated by not understanding what gouache and watercolour are both capable of, I dropped Gouache for so long because I didn't understand it. I get it now but it did take a long time............Thanks for the video, I just saw your channel come up on my feed so Thank you

Well welcome back and thank you. My health has been a big problem lately since I was rushed into the hospital with sepsis. My heart has been acting up but I’m glad I look healthy anyway!😂

Lovely painting, Sharon. Thank you for all the info about Kuretake...I have both sets and I love them...I am a watercolorist, though and have only painted with gouache a few times. Though I love to watch both you and Sarah Burns use it. LOVE your shirt!!

I use my Kuretake paints quite a bit, but I've never tried a landscape. Yours is beautiful. I just might have to practice some landscapes. They are not my strong point. Thanks, Sharon.
@SharonCullenArtАй бұрын
They weren’t my strong point for many years but I longed to paint them. I was so intimidated by perspective in landscapes but I began reading and practicing and they gradually got better. Now it seems it is all I paint! I need to get back to some other things.

I just ordered both the 48 and Art Nuevoux! I've been thinking about them every day for weeks. I'm finished thinking! I have their Graphite colors too, and they are definitely NOT student grade ❤

Wow, both of these paintings are amazing. I have the full set of Neocolor II, and the set of 48 Gansi Tambi, but I really don’t use them. Every now and then I pull them out to re-swatch them, marvel at how nice they are, and then put them back! I don’t think I have really seen anyone use either medium to do such elaborate artwork and it is exciting to see what they can do. I have one minor correction (at least I think I am correcting an error.) I believe the toned tan journal you have IS the Mixed Media, and you are comparing it to the “Toned Tan Sketch” paper, which is only 80 lb and really for use with dry media. I have that exact toned tan mixed media journal and a couple toned tan sketchbooks, too.
@AnonymoiАй бұрын
Sorry, for whatever reason I am never able to edit my comments and have to just reply to myself. I just wanted to add that oddly, the Strathmore 500 series Mixed Media paper, which I don’t think comes in any color but white, is only something like 94 lb (compared to the 184 lb toned tan 400 Series mixed media) yet it is 100% cotton, and it actually does take water very well. I think Sarah Burns actually uses the Stillman & Birn Nova series in tan although she loves Strathmore’s travel booklets.
@SharonCullenArtАй бұрын
Yes correct. I thought that is what I said in the beginning. Mine is the 500 series, 184lb toned tan mixed media paper. I read it off the label. I was saying that Sarah Burns uses the mixed media 94lb paper. Not sketch paper. It may be 400 series.
@AnonymoiАй бұрын
@@SharonCullenArt Oh I was getting confused because what you said was that your journal is the 400 Series “184 lb Toned Tan Media Paper,” (not mixed media) and that Sarah Burns may have the regular 94 lb mixed media paper which is more like regular mixed media paper. I missed that you said it “MAY” be Strathmore, not that it is. They don’t make a toned tan lighter weight mixed media paper, but their white 94 lb mixed media paper is incredibly strong due to its 100% cotton content. But you are correct she is using a lighter weight toned tan mixed media paper (Stillman & Birn.) Sorry, probably thoroughly confusing anyone who reads this.

I'm about to order my third set of these. They aren't Gouache, but I expect you know that. They dry shiny when applied thickly. I like that ☺️ Thank for the video.
@SharonCullenArtАй бұрын
Yes they are watercolor. But as I said in the video, they make the claim that they can be used as gouache or watercolor, even though they are watercolor. And I also said they dry shiny in the first half of the video. Maybe you skipped all that. 😉😁

I love my Kuretake paints! You'll absolutely love the Art Nouveau set, that is my most used of them all. Where did you find the pans open stock? I desperately need to replenish several of my most used colors...
@SharonCullenArtАй бұрын
Here is one…. www.paperinkarts.com/MC21-Individual.html, and another… www.johnnealbooks.com/product/gansai-tambi-watercolor-individual-pans I don’t know what country you’re in but just Google individual pans and you’ll have a lot pop up. Most are $2.50-$3.00.
