Yes especially the irodori sets. Their main color selection is a bit less. But their gouache is so nice. I think that there are plenty of other companies that have good gouache as well.

Loved your paintings, thank you for sharing. I have several different sets of gouache and keep trying to use them as acrylics since Im an acrylic painter for 30 years. It was good two see you using them it helped me a grat deal. Have a good week.😊
@SharonCullenArt
@SharonCullenArt 15 күн бұрын
Oh thank you. There is acrylic gouache. The only real difference is that it has a matte finish in comparison to regular acrylic. And it costs a lot more. But with gouache, the trick to building color is that each subsequent layer be a bit thicker than the last to prevent lifting of color. Sometimes I use that to my advantage if I want blending. Or just a slightly damp brush and use that to blend colors and soften edges.

Two very nice and also very different pieces, Sharon. It was so interesting to see how you could still create such a vibrant, colourful summer scene from a palette that was geared towards the more muted colours of autumn. I had to chuckle when you referred to the imminent end of summer in Michigan and the looming arrival of the colder seasons - here in Florida, we're still at the height of summer of course and last night Hurricane Debby paid us a visit, knocking our power out for a while (but fortunately little or no physical damage). I hope that despite your cool days and the various health issues, you've been able to get at least a few days out and about doing plein-air work, because I remember that in spring you were so looking forward to being able to get into the great outdoors once decent weather arrived. Anyway, thanks for the video and take care - kind regards, Brian.

Good to hear from you Brian. I’ve gotten out a bit but not as much as I had hoped. The health problems just keep coming. I thought for sure things would be better. And they could be worse so I just try to stay positive. It does show in my painting though. We are still in summer here. I was just being a bit sarcastic about how fast it changes. We already have a few trees with leaves changing color. But I love all of the seasons. If it is hot out, that’s what I struggle with. So I’m happy!

Some really gorgeous pieces in that sketchbook, Sharon (and, yes, I too thought that the one with the two swans & babies came out especially well) - thanks for sharing them with us. I haven't fully got into my stride with gouache as yet but when i do use it, I have a piece of sponge I've cut from a stay-wet pad which I dampen and cover with regular parchment paper from the kitchen. I then squeeze dabs of paint from my tubes and find it stays wet for quite a long time. As you say, this approach leads to some wastage but I'm only using mid-price gouache at present, so that isn't a bother so far. As regards your (should I/shouldn't I?) palette, I'm really not sure - my instinct is to say "Yes, go for it" but I'd always worry about having wells in the lid with the potential for contamination and gooey messes when the palette is closed after a session. Maybe try it with a small(ish) selection of colours first and see how it works. If it doesn't end up with paint running all over the place you can then top it up with the rest of your colours. Hope granddaughter continues to improve - kind regards, Brian.

Congratulations on your precious new grandbaby! How fun it is to be a gramma! 😍 I have the stablo also and I have really liked it except for that I don’t think the magnets are strong enough. I want them stronger. I am also familiar with the Etsy setup you are talking about and actually just ordered one a couple of hours ago. The magnets appear to be much stronger. I will see when it arrives. I also wanted one in a smaller size for portability. I am disabled and want something portable and easier to take wherever I go. But the real reason that I wanted it is because of the bag. I love that I can fit everything inside of it including the board and sketchbook. It comes with a long strap so I can carry it like a crossbody. That is a big help for me! I can sit or stand with it against my body open and paint away. The video I watched of the woman using it put the brushes she was using standing up in the bag and she even had a pill bottle of water wedged in the bag. It was very convenient and a great setup. I will be able to use the bag with the stablo to paint or the board that comes with it. I hope you’re having a wonderful vacation! Oh, and I forgot to mention that I wanted the bag so I could pick those gorgeous colors for the bag and board. 😂😂
