I think he was pretty humble. Compared to so many other rock stars. I know a guy who met him a bunch of times, everything from what people say is that Kurt was down to earth, had a lot of problems with stomach pain, drug addiction, depression, and basically feeling like crap all the time, but he was always at least trying to be self aware and not egotistical.

I went to see Phil Anselmo and The Illegals back in September 2019 when they came to Santiago and it was a fucking amazing experience. They came with nothing else than Pantera's songs. There's a couple of videos in KZfaq from that night in case you want to watch how crazy it was. I was born in 2000. And I feel pretty out of place... I'm currently in a new job and a co-worker told me about a punk rock band that is still playing so I hope to check them out. Just being there. With the drumbeats so fucking powerful that your chest is beating with it... Ah. It's just perfect. Rest in peace, Kurt. You'll be missed until the final days of humankind.

I hated Seattle bands in the early 90s. I was more into industrial, 80s Dark wave, and English bands. But I always liked Nirvana. They were diff than other Seattle bands. They sounded different, and looked different. That unplugged performance is prob the best live performance of any band, ever…

There was an interview where they talked all about that night…it actually might be transcribed in “Heavier Than Heaven”…I gave that book to a student of mine years back, so I unfortunately don’t own a copy that I can quick reference…but I’m about 90 % sure that the whole thing is in that book in the Unplugged Chapter. If I remember right, Cobain said something like, “Yeah, that (shut up) came off sounding a lot meaner than I meant it to.” I remember they also explained that Kurt was super nervous about that show…he really, really wanted it to be perfect. They had toyed with the concept of him doing a song alone, but it hadn’t been rehearsed, and the other guys didn’t know that “pennyroyal tea” was to be the solo song. When he said, “Am I gonna do this by myself?” , the other guys were genuinely as interested as the audience to see what Kurt was up to. The band agreed with him not just because he was in charge, but as genuine fans of their friend and his talent, they wanted to encourage him to do something unique. Dave had also said that they all had a pretty harsh sense of humor toward one another (think of when Kurt kicked Krist in the ass on the Mtv Award Show), so when Kurt heard Dave remark after the song, he right away suspected smart shit comments. I think part of that, too, was Kurt’s anxiety about his own talent and worth. He rarely thought that he was good enough, and had vocally expressed concerns that the Unplugged would sound shitty, and that the fans would be disappointed.

Kurt was one attractive guy he tried to downplay it but I saw pictures of him more spruced up and he had a perfect face

And than find the full live video of that song and at the beginning Kurt says I am going to play this by myself. Than super nervous Dave made few comments on if Pat wont sing it, and than they both went behind for a cigarette and missed one of the greatest performances of Kurt.

I think in the moment he was perceived as rebellious so it seemed cool when he would make headlines with his comments in interviews and shit, but truthfully Kurt was just a whiny man-child who thought the whole world revolved around him. Most importantly though, as someone who’s father took his own life, I have no respect for a man who knowingly takes his life and leaves a child to miss him for the rest of their life. I don’t care how much he struggled mentally, no one gets to just quit being a father and keep their respect.
