They did that with all of Mercedes’ relationships. Kurt, Santana, Sam. Even though they were better with Mercedes’ and their relationship with Rachel came out of nowhere and felt super forced.

Can’t outshine “star Rachel Berry.” Which is such shitty writing; you shouldn’t have to take away from an established background character to get the audience invested in your main character.

Also adding how unique it is that Mercedes is a devoted Christian Baptist and Kurt is a sceptic atheist...More proof their friendship crossed a lot of boundaries

I feel like they took Kurt, then Glee's most popular character, and paired him with Glee's most hated character, Rachel, to make her less hated. And it didn't work, it just ruined one of the best friendships on the show.

I miss when Kurt was besties with Mercedes and got to be an actual person rather than Rachel’s babysitter. I spent so long wishing Rachel would be nicer to Kurt since she had two gay dads and should have understood his struggles, but she never did, and when they did become friends Kurt basically filled the role of her dads by constantly having to tell her “no Rachel, don’t do that stupid thing” and then she’d go do the stupid thing
