A colorful treat from the Philippines, halo-halo is basically summertime in a bowl. Imagine a vibrant concoction of shaved ice and evaporated milk, embellished with a rainbow of ingredients that, at first glance, may appear to have accidentally attended the celebration, but somehow, they all get along very well.
The name "halo-halo", which translates to "mix-mix" in Filipino, refers to a sweet, frosty delicacy that is primarily intended to combat tropical heat. You're supposed to mix everything together to create a sort of lovely, creamy dessert soup before you dive in.
