So for example, it is politically incorrect to make jokes aboot molestation, but I was molested as a child, and I can tell the difference between a joke and a malicious insult. As people, we can; see, hear, think, feel, speak, and choose for ourselves. So when people get 'offended for my sake' they are imposing their values, their opinions, their stereotypes of people who were molested into my mouth as if they inherently know what is correct for me. That is called the soft bigotry of low expectations, people always need to be offended for groups of people as if people in those groups are too stupid to think for themselves. There is a massive difference between say, treating gay people like people, and treating gay people like gay. I have known many gay people and they are all very different and can't simply be devalued into a sexuality or simple collection of ideologies. Another example is that the LGBT Community does not represent the LGBT demographic at all, as the community is a collection of ideals, values, and ideologies, where the demographic is no such thing. I have very different views from the community, but I have no issue at all with individuals being LGBT. So I do and I don't. Being strictly pro or anti anything is a dangerous mindset to take. Being anti something risks you becoming the very thing you don't like, or becoming a contrarian for contrarian's sake. And being pro something runs the risk of blindly accepting anything and everything as long as it is attached to the idea that you are pro for. Sorry for my initial comment being confusing, this stuff is more nuanced and complex than a couple sentences can truly convey.
