In Aranya Kanda of Valmiki Ramayana, Seetha tells Ravana that she had stayed at Ayodhya for 12 years after marriage. When She had left for Vanvaas, she was 18 and Rama was 25 years of age. Does it mean she was 6 and Rama was 13 at time of marriage ? Since vedic era, Upanayana or initiation of education was considered as 2nd birth (Dwija). For Brahmins it was done at age of 8, Kshatriyas at 11 and Vaishyas at 12. They were called Dwija (twice born) after that (Apasthamba Grihya Sutra). Since both Seetha and Rama were from Kshatriya families, both of them were initiated at age of 11. So, after their 2nd birth (initiation), their new age was 6 and 13, but their biological age was 17 and 24 years respectively at time of marriage. After 12 years of married life at Ayodhya, when they left for Forest exile, their new ages were 18 and 25 but biological ages were 29 and 36 years.

@@factonusfactsonus1693 I have reading mahabharat and in Shantiparv same question was asked by yudhishtir to which both rishi bhrigu and yagyakalvya said. since they are doing all the related tasks of other three varnas like charioteer, cleaner of yagya site, etc. And eat all types of foods so they should not do the upnayan sanskar. But they were not restricted or prohibited of it. They can do it on their own yagya, war, business everything. Vo teeno karya unke liye nishedh(prohibited) nhi maane gye. Rishi chandkaushik or Rishi matang jo shudra varna mein paida hue the dono brahmlok vasi ho gye.

I've been searching and researching a lot of scriptures mainly Ramayan and Mahbharat in details (as we've read only small part of these during our childhood), not to mention during the process I've came across a lot of websites made by some particular community to spread false and hate speech and to do brainwash (as usual) to the people. I literally visited and read all the articles from those websites and I was stunned after reading all of those, how did a person can make such claims out of nothing? And the claims are totally false but common people will not research like me and will believe those stories from the scripters (as they mentioned) and will guide people in a wrong way. I'm really concern about these websites. I examined both parts (stories/lines from those websites which they claimed that came from different scriptures and puranas and actual scriptures), and believe me they literally changed whole meaning of those Sanskrit verses xD People should be aware of such websites and don't try to learn from online or social media until you can find a solid source.

The story of Sambhuka is puzzling like many other chapters in the last book of Ramayana. There are so many puranic stories of a variety of men & even demons and animals, performing penance to achieve glory. The author of Ramayana, Valmiki himself might have come from a hunter/robber background and got to the stage of rishi through his penance. Then how come someone can be punished for doing a pious act? This is surprising. To understand it, let’s go into Valmiki Ramayana Uttara Khanda Chapter 75, where Rama finds a man in deep penance. उवाच स तदा वाक्यं धन्यस्त्वमसि सुव्रत॥ १४॥ कस्यां योन्यां तपोवृद्ध वर्तसे दृढविक्रमः। कौतूहलात्त्वां पृच्छामि रामो दाशरथिर्ह्यहम्॥ १५॥ कोऽर्थो मनीषितस्तुभ्यं स्वर्गलाभो परोऽथवा। वराश्रयो यदर्थं त्वं तपस्यसि सुदुष्करं॥ १६॥ यमाश्रित्य तपस्तप्तं श्रोतुमिच्छामि तापस। Rama spoke the words - "Blessed are you a man of great deed! In which race were you born O man of steadfast intent? I am asking you out of curiosity. I am Rama, son of Dasharatha. For what purpose are you doing such severe penance? What do you intend to achieve with this penance? The man responds: शूद्रयोन्यां प्रसूतोऽस्मि शम्बूकं नाम नामतः॥ देवत्वं प्रार्थये राम सशरीरो महायशः॥ ६७-२॥ न मिथ्याहं वदे राजन् देवलोकजिगीषया। शूद्रं मां विद्धि काकुत्स्थ तप उग्रं समास्थितम्। ६७-३॥ O Sri Rama, I was born in Shudrayoni. My name is SambUka. I wish to have godlihood in this mortal body. I am not telling a lie. I wish to conquer the heavens. To that end, I am engaged in severe penance. The person doing that strong penance was not doing it for spiritual reasons, but for destructive purposes. Think of a scientist who is building a bomb with an intent to conquer & destroy. Or an engineer building a clever piece of code to rob a bank. Rama, the emperor of Ayodhya, has a key duty to protect the people and the Dharma. Even though he was impressed with Sambuka’s penance, his duty was to keep his people out of danger. Thus, he punished Sambuka. My takeaway from this is: even if your action is good [doing penance] if your intent is wrong you will be punished. In the modern legal code this is called a “Culpable Mind” - if your intent is wrong, then the action can be considered criminal. Thus, if you do a Puja or Yajna or prayer with the goal to destroy your competitor or rival or family member, you will get punished. The caste of Sambuka is not relevant apart from mere curiosity. In the next chapter Valmiki talks about the penance of a celestial being named Shveta and its great thirst while doing that extreme penance. Given the context of the surrounding lessons it is unlikely for the lesson to be one of only particular castes that can do penance. Thus, we can take it as just a dharmic lesson. There is a controversy on whether this whole book of Uttarakhanda was even written by Valmiki because it has no authentication and according to the historians this Khanda was added in Ramayan after so many years ( some say in medieval ages ) and thus in many religious households this book is not taught to children while the rest of Ramayana is taught.
