In this video I'll show you one of my favourite ways to set up a kydex sheath for scout (horizontal) carry.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

You are a legend my friend, I'm in the UK & I've been looking for that rubber coated webbing that you use for ages now. I want some to replace a strap on a knife sheath that I have & it's made from exactly the same stuff.

Nice little short and to the point video Jeremy. Miss your videos happening more often but you have work to do. Keep up the great work as always.

I actually picked up a similarly sized knife that had very similar straps on it. I swapped those out for the plastic clip and carry the knife in front, but behind the belt in a modified scout (I call it Appendix Scout). The handle fades away under my gut, but is very accessible and comfortable. Just another carry option.

Great work. A suggestion, put a couple of holes so you can adjust the strap to get the perfect fit on the belt you're using on the day?

This is a great idea. I think I've only done 1 or 2 sheaths that were 2 piece. I know I've used that other method you showed a few times. Thanks for the tips, hope all is well, take it easy..

That is interesting stuff, I have always used leather or cordura strapping, your rubberised strap looks way better. I'll have to see if I can get it in Spain. Cheers

you can dilute clear or black silicone caulk with mineral spirits and dip the nylon webbing or brush it on (and let dry), I see this more as a hack or a diy concept, don't know if I would use it for a production item or commission piece, but I think that depends on individual results. Anyway hope it's useful for anyone who maybe can't get their hands on this product.

Great video as usual! I did not see you "burn" the holes so they won't fray like you did the ends. Using vise grip pliers try heating a nail with a propane torch to make the hole and it is also burned in the process.

Your hole on your ruler, does that measure the right distance for your holes, you would have a built in gauge to use?

I made my first knife with a $10 angle grinder from harbor freight, the Gough Customs bevel jig which i made for less than $20, and a $10 nicholson file. I promise you dont need all the tools to get into it. I have a belt grinder, bandsaw, and more tools now, and I'm not going to sit here and tell you that it doesn't make the process easier, but the only way to start is to start. don't let money be a factor. you could make your first knife (tools, steel, and all) for less than $100. try Jeremy's Kiridashi build along for your first knife. its a great beginner project to start on. and NEVER get discouraged with your results. my first knife looked like an african prison shank, and even that is a generous description. so just keep at it, and you can accomplish amazing things.

I’m making my first knife with a file on a hunk of rod through an eye bolt on some scrap lumber. Been filing for a while. It’s starting to look like something kinda cool. Anything worth while isn’t going to come easy

1st thing I noticed was how the knife/sheath slid away from your hand when you went to grab it & I thought I'd ask if you'd thought about creating a sheath / mount system that would fix this by punching 2 holes in your leather belt & permanently affixing the knife in one spot for a more stealth carry. Ps...What's the vintage bike hanging above you? EDIT EDIT: I just had a better idea, create a kydex sheath that would allow you to run the belt thru it & have 2-4 small set screws on the inner portion (between the inside of the belt & the denim) which you can use to tighten the sheath in place. Make it just ever slightly narrower than the belt so it's got a nice solid "grip" & feels like a part of you.

You can very easily treat leather so that it is weather resistant. Actually extremely weather resistant
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 4 жыл бұрын
Oh for sure. I treat my leather sheaths and they’re ready for years of service. But the convenience of kydex is that it’s faster than leather, and these steps are certainly a quicker option than making leather ones and treating them. Leather will also stretch a lot more over time than nylon webbing. Just showing a different (faster = less expensive) option. 👍

Chicago screws are ok better off using pull the dot just as good if not better!!!

No idea what pull the dot is
@johncipollone4864
@johncipollone4864 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry it’s in knifekits under snaps scroll down you will find it only problem with those are you need a tool to press fit. I have the removable Chicago screw type same thing just not press fit easily removable from belt and can only be released in one direction hence pull the dot.
