Nowadays Kyle Busch is known as one of the elite drivers not just in the current NASCAR Cup Series but also in NASCAR history overall. But coming into 2008 Kyle Busch was still a young hotshot 22 year old who had both a bunch to prove to the NASCAR world as well as a driver who had a massive chip on his shoulder. And to start off the 2008 season he was on absolute fire, but it would not last. This is Kyle Busch’s historic 2008 season collapse.

Him moving onto JGR was the best thing that could have happened to him. If he stayed at Hendrick instead of Casey Mears, he would be the fourth wheel to 2 all time legends and the most popular driver in Nascar... Him being at JGR, especially with a still young Hamlin at the time and Stewart on his way out, allowed him to flourish.

haha yeah JR. admitted it recently on his show. Honestly and ( I am a huge Kyle Busch fan btw) it was bad luck, but it also was a collapse. Engines shop was sloppy, cars weren't prepared great, and on top of that Kyle sometimes has attitude issues and is his own worst enemy when things aren't going well. I think all this put together could be considered a collapse.

Yea but think of it this way. Gibbs stays at Chevy, they play second fiddle to Hendrick. Gibbs going to Toyota meant they'd be Toyota's lead team. Kind of like how Roush was the king Ford team at the time. I think that was a major factor in Gibbs going to Toyota. And as others have said, if Kyle stayed at Hendrick, he'd probably play 3rd or 4th fiddle to JJ and Gordon for sure, and maybe Jr considering the money he brought in. And why ya gotta hate on Mears? Lol.

@@doomusrlc I totally understand why things happened the way they did. I'm just being greedy and salty lol. As far as Mears goes, I just don't see the value in a guy that hadn't really displayed race winning talent at any point in his career prior to getting the ride. I know he had a handful of solid runs with Ganassi prior to 2007. However, I wish people could look past how they perceive how nice of a person a driver may be and look at what they actually bring to the on track results. Not saying that you're doing that in this case, but it always gets to me. I always liked Phil Parsons when I was growing up. He was nowhere near my top 20 favorite drivers, but I liked him. I also understood he was booty.

@@ryanwinkelman1781 ya I’m not a Harvick fan and I like chase but you can’t deny Harvick was by far the best driver in 2020 and his season fell apart after just 2 bad races. Larson was close to making it happen two years in a row today. Harvicks been way off pace this year though he’s lucky he even made it this far in the playoffs.

I think it was more the cars too. Hendrick , most notably Jimmie Johnson, dominated in that car of tomorrow. Toyota a few years later had the better car and Kyle got that first cup in 2015.

I really wish black flags matter can start a new series on his channel called season collapses. It's been plenty across the top 3 series. Dale jr 2008, Michael Waltrip 2003, Dale jarrett 2003 and Dale earnhardt sr 1996 comes to mind. If he doesn't then maybe you can. Or if not you then maybe me lol
@doomusrlc
@doomusrlc 2 жыл бұрын
Hell, Jarrett 2003 for sure, but his summer 2001 I'd consider a collapse too. Goes from battling Gordon atop the standings (even tied a few times, including after his 4th win of the year at Loudon) to "where'd he go?!" and 500 points behind by season's end. As a DJ fan, that hurt. A lot.
