@@omniscientomnipresent5500 it's progress enough, something about the other videos seemed... too technical? Basically, stuff there doesn't stick well in my head. This video's explanation, even with how simple and quick it is, made everything clear to me. I won't say that I learned complete music theory from this, but it made things much easier. Edit: On a side note, I actually researched a bit and found why this is happening. Because of my interest in Re: Zero and the curiousity of learning what the video is all about, the brain... basically made learning much more easier by thinking its a fun activity instead of a stressful learning lesson. Neat, huh?

Well, Verdi's Dies Irae has inspired countless pieces of music and made a huge impact on movie scores in general, so drawing a connection between it and Hymme of Despair and Atonement is definitely fair, even if the inspiration wasn't direct. Some elements of it, such as the chromatic downwards movement and the timpani hits, have become such staples of "action" or "apocalyptic" music that they can be said to be universal to the genre. For example, try listening to Yoko Kanno's Final Shore, as it also draws on similar elements of Verdi.
@gctypo2838
@gctypo2838 2 жыл бұрын
I can only remember hearing Verdi's Dies Irae in Spec Ops the Line, which was one of the reasons I first watched Re:Zero. I saw it described as an anime that subverts audience expectations for a Hero's fantasy to put its protagonist through hell and deliver a powerful, resonant, and deeply thematic story - much as Spec Ops does. Funny how things come full circle like this.

Fun facts: when petelgious(idk the spellin) says ‘death’ at the end of his talking,it actually dosent mean ‘death’. It just sounds like ‘death’. The actual meaning is, well,it has the same meaning as ‘detsu’. It is the usual grammar thingly to end the sentence,but it is just him who says it oddly,which makes him quite notable. But,in english,we can’t translate that exactly,so that’s why the translators put ‘death!’. Well,I can say that that’s complicated......;)
@mikhalin977

I Dont think they should try to translate those things, its something that only happens (I think) in japanese, so things like desu, -kun, -chan... Should not be translated, It makes It feel awkward. For example in another anime (Toaru kagaku no railgun) a character refers to the protagonista as One-sama even though they are not related, still the translation is stubborn enough to translate It as "sister". Idk if One-sama has any other meaning than sister but if thats not the case, the translation is horrible for trying to translate something It should not.

I always felt it was criminal how underrated re:zero's music was. I've seen a number of video essays on re:zero and the music is either never mentioned or they go out of their way to say it's mediocre or bad and I can't help but think they're insane. In my opinion the music accentuates the emotion of the scenes so well at times in terms of broader themes, at times what the character(s) is/are experiencing, and at times both and done so masterfully well. It just brings the show to life so much and is the icing on top of a rich cake of great animation and crazy good plot. Criminally underrated.

Seriously, since I first heard the soundtrack in Re:Zero, I was so goddamn sure that I had heard it somewhere in classical music already, but I couldn't put my finger on it: reason being that I didn't know about Guiseppe Verdi's version of the song being...well his version. I had heard it, but I couldn't put my finger on it. And goddamn yes, this "motif" shows up so much in accompanying music that it's really iconic. Amazing work, you turned what could've been just a 30 second video pointing out the similarities from both songs into an 11 minute deep analysis about the dies ire, the theme of death and some general knowledge of music theory applyed to one of Re:Zero's most iconic songs I've watched it 4 times already

Your editing is really amazing for not having been doing this for very long. Definitely an inspiration for me. Would love to see you cover more Re:Zero music. Requiem of silence and the Beatrice song we got in this weeks episode especially.

I expected the Dies irae to show up in this video sooner or later, but when he said that there is a specific song to convey the emotion of death at 6:16 I knew that moment had come

Been a fan of Ennio Morricone's work in The good, the bad and the ugly for months and now i just noticed it has similarities with call of the witch from Re:Zero. Thanks for pointing it out mate.
