This is so weird as he was talking I sore myself in Subarus Shoes i always though putting the burden of other's pain on my shoulder was the right thing to do I had a twisted philosophy that helping others meant taking the pain onto myself I created a god complex of my own toxic behaviour and for that to be shattered with just a couple of words really goes to show you that anything can be possible. Now I have to find another belief, one that isn't so Toxic. Also, I was Aware of it, but how could I be sure if it was wrong Or Not, every human is the same right we all have our beliefs We All make different choices what should I have done instead.

I hate how people don’t realize that this is a COMING OF AGE story. Even being an insekai doesn’t change that. A person breaking down and finding oneself is that very definition. This guy is literally changing from someone who is very cringe to someone we, as viewers could rally on.

@@asheqabeer1798 He combines his own point with one(or even two) plotpoints from the show into one clever wordplay, First he talks about Subaru learning he can't be a person that solves everyone's problems (he's still gonna do some solvin, but not alone) then there is the plotpoint of Beatrice waiting for "that person", Subaru didn't just stroll into the library proclaiming himself that person, because he want to connect with her genuinly, not because of some bs from Roswaal who he hates, especially after hearing what "that person" was really about from Echidna, who he also dislikes for doing that to Beatrice. Then this could also alude to next part of the video, where he shows Roswaal and plays his ost, and we know Subaru also said he doesn't want to become a person like Roswaal (or in other words, rejecting to be such person, Roswaal want's him to be).

To be clear, the second trial does not necessarily show the truth. We still don’t know if the world he left behind still exists or if time rewinds. We still don’t exactly know how RBD works. At least I’ve never seen any direct proof either way.
@KyleRobes
@KyleRobes 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it matters that much if what the trial shows is real, at least for Subaru in that moment. If it’s real, Subaru has to face the consequences of his actions. If it isn’t, if it’s something constructed from his memories, then he has to face something hes known all along. In either case, it’ll lead him to the same conclusion.
@BenStro
@BenStro 3 жыл бұрын
@@KyleRobes what do you mean? It would make Subaru never want to die if he knew it wouldn’t actually hurt others. One thing is that it’s better him not knowing. Can’t help but be curious though.
@KyleRobes
@KyleRobes 3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why the second trial is so traumatic for Subaru is that he desperately wants to believe that no one would care if he suffers. The trial shows Subaru that he's wrong, people do care about him. If the scenarios presented in the trial are real, then it means Subaru never considered how his suffering would affect others, and if they're not real, then it means Subaru always knew that treating himself that way would hurt people and he tried to ignore it. That's why I don't think it matters whether or not what happens in the trial is "real" because the lesson is the same; people love and care about him and don't want him to suffer. You could make the argument that if no one knows that Subaru is hurting then it wouldn't matter how many times Subaru dies, but I think that sort of misses the point. The whole "the ends justify the means" mindset can lead to some pretty terrible places, and I have a feeling that it's going to be addressed in the next half of the season since that's part of Roswaal's whole ideology.

Something of note: the story is separated in arcs. Episode 1-3 is arc 1. Ep 4-11 are arc 2. And Episode 12-26(season 2 episode 1)are arc 3. Arc 4 is season 2 episode 2 - the end of this season. The end of arc 3 fits so well into this season tho that the distinction doesn’t matter much. The reason I mention this is because you said loneliness is one of the themes in season 1 when I think its a persistent them throughout the series. The author said tho: Arc 1 was about beginnings Arc 2 is about trust Arc 3 is about self-awareness (or self reflection) Arc 4 is about self-worth I think these are more general ideas rather than themes. I think Re Zero is layered in multiple themes

@@uwu.-.5873 the problem with Re:Zero is that you have to pay attention to the story, look for clues, put the pieces together to understand the bigger scope. The show doesn’t give you the answers straight up like most shows. The show alllows you (the viewer) to analyze what’s going. That’s why rezero is a highly rewatchable show because there are a lot of details that can missed or mysteries that were solved later in the story. This is really great for people who like to analysis and theorize the show but bad for people who like to watch for the sake of watching and not actively try to understand what’s going on which leads them to become confused about the plot and characters and call it bad, boring or filled with plot holes which isn’t really the case.

I love that most of the good advice Subaru gets, about what to do, is from Satella herself, such as "why haven't you realized you should be included among the ones you wish so desperately to save? It should be obvious!" (and then obviously the wake up call/beat down from best boy Otto helping him realize he DOES have friends he can count on and share his burdens with)

Its like subaru is genuinely stuck with no way out. We got the barrier , the trial , the great rabbit , garfiel , the witches not being trustworthy, back in the house two assassins attacking and to top it all off , roswal being able to predict what subaru will do in his book and trying to force him to abandon one location to doom .

very interesting, I love this series so much because it makes me think it. It gives infinite possibilities to what happens next with its lore and story and well when you said A man who depends on everybody else to accomplish his dreams and showed Roswaal with his theme playing I was like damn. Roswaal is great, too bad he's insane though, but yeah he has a big dream of slaying the dragon behind the waterfall (It was briefly mentioned in season 1 when ram was sitting on his lap). He cannot accomplish it by himself thats why he depends on the prophecy and Subaru. But it makes me think: the dragon sealed Echidna away, so would slaying it mean theres a possibility to revive Echidna and that is Roswaals goal or is there another, actually good motive behind his actions

Loved the video, but there's still one thing bugging me. I understand that he should love himself and help others because that's the best option. However, Return by Death is still Subaru's trump card in situations where everything could be lost. Yes, Subaru knows that he shouldn't abuse Return by Death, but this still doesn't take away the certainty that Subaru and his loved ones *will* die again in the future. There are some consequences that Subaru is willing to put up with, like the deaths of people that he doesn't know, but we know that his absolute limit are the sufferings of his loved ones and just things that have permanent and problems too big for him to ignore. Like you said, Subaru has to accept that he can't be certain about everything, but as long as he has Return by Death, he will try over and over to find the solution he can live with and the happiest everyone can be, even if it's not 100% perfect.
@casualhavoc
@casualhavoc 3 жыл бұрын
I think that presents it's own brilliant, continuous obstacle for Subaru. After the second trial, he is much more reluctant to resort to return by death as he has seen the potential after effects of carelessly leaving worlds behind. Despite this, he will still want to reach an optimal outcome where everyone close to him is in as good of a position as possible. But that plays once again upon the theme of doubt as it forces Subaru to question whether the potential pain and suffering his death could cause in this world is worth the potential improvements he could provide everyone in the next world. He is forced to weigh up whether the state of the world warrants a redo. That means that the closer together his renewed self care and his care for the situation of others comes, the more agonising the dilemma. It even creates mixed feelings from an audience because, as this self care grows, what sort of unideal situations could it potentially outweigh? Do we really WANT Subaru to learn to love and value himself more if it means that he will begin to allow more and more less-than-acceptable outcomes to become permanent? He has to overcome his doubt every time he moves past an incident, since he will question whether he is OK with allowing this to be the permanent outcome. In other words, after the second trial, Subaru now has to have a mental tug-of-war between his own wellbeing (which he has now been taught to value more) and the wellbeing of others when considering whether to retry. It is a clever yet cruel way of making Return by Death test Subaru more harshly in proportion to how much self worth he gains.

Amazing analysis! I was wondering who inspires your style? The intro was very reminiscent to some Vsauce 3 videos, and it just works so well with an anime like re:zero. You are definitely going to blow up on day if you keep putting out bangers like this!

What i love about this arc is that it challenges the readers understanding of Subaru's situation. I remember hearing online people criticizing how RBD could be abused by Subaru just dying everytime something bad happens to change the outcome. But that mentality never takes into account how bad it is for Subaru to go throught and not only that, it affects the type of person he becomes later, like in one of the "If" stories where he does abuse RBD. Spoilers: He takes Echidna's offer and makes his sacrifice his biggest strenght. He becomes extremely powerful, but he doesn't support the people in his life with their problems causing them grave unending pain (Emillia, Beatrice and Garfiel) because he chose the most optimal path, the only person that is happy to be with Subaru is just Roswaal funnily enough. He also becomes violent to Echidna, beating her up, resenting what he becomes because of her.

Most anime watchers hate Subaru's character because they are like him, to a certain extent. I know a lot of people who watch anime because it allows them to insert them selfs into these "cool" anime character and use it as some sort of escapism. But when they see Subaru, they don't see this cool character, they see a hopeless person who no one would like to be and maybe even they se them self's in him. For me that has the opposite effect, i love Subaru so much because I relate to him in some way and he's an extremely well put together character. When I read the Web Novel arc 6, i was blown away. Subaru's character definitely peaks there, but we are still a bit over halfway untill the story is finished and his character still has plenty of room to grow. Natsuki Subaru is my favorite character in fiction
