This song is a masterpiece. After leaving the pop stable of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, that made her a star, Kylie wanted to stamp her independence and grow as an artist. And boy did she bring it to the table in spades 🙌🏼

Yes, this song was a pretty radical change when it came out. But then again people expected change when she left Stock Aitken Waterman. it still was a sizeable hit at the time. Definitely the biggest hit of the album. She also did some amazing live performances of this.

I remember very clearly when this song came out. It totally propelled her into a new league. She’d proved herself as a serious dance artist with ‘What do I have to do’ and ‘Shocked’ but ‘Confide in me’ had a level of experimentation and risk that was unexpected. It really didn’t sound like anything on the radio at the time and made use of her vocal upper register in a way that we hadn’t heard. I remember at college even the alternative kids appreciated this track. Plus we all used to excitedly talk about which Kylie we wanted to be in the video…..lol I always loved blood splattered Kylie with the black catsuit and messy crimped hair…..just so damn cool.

For me, this was and still is the best thing Kylie ever put out. It's got a haunting hypnotic feel to it that sets it aside from other pop songs.

Yep. One of my favourites of hers. First listen I loved it. I think you have mentioned before that there was a young "new to the world" Kylie that was just seeing if music would work for her as well as her acting career, then flash forward there is adult Kylie who has lived life and wanted to be unique and more creative. Beyond the neon colours of the video this song defo has an edge. One part sexy but another part critical and questioning - the needs of humans etc;

The first time I heard this song was 1997. It came on tv and I loved it immediately. I knew Kylie then only from the Locomotion (big hit years before), as a kind of cheesy pop singer. But this was amazing, so I looked her up online and found out about this album, which I ordered, the one with the French version of Confide in Me on it. This was the first single of the 1994 album, and some critics didn't believe she really hit that note at the end haha. But she sings this live perfectly. I played the song on the piano a lot later on for fun. Beautiful melody. Her 1997-1998 follow up album is also amazing, both were released on a small independent label and are kind of unique in her discography as being very original, unconventional records.

From what I heard this was a huge shock for fans and even critics but in a good way. This really is what gave her credit for being a real artist because from the beginning up to that time she was seen sort of like a puppet that got lucky because she was on a successful TV show. I heard this track for the first time on a Greatest hits album called Hits + and I was shocked blown away and started to wonder why she had not been asked to sing a James Bond Theme song.

This wasn't a massive departure from Kylie's late-PWL-era image-wise (See: Better the Devil You Know, What Do I Have to Do, Finer Feelings) - but musically, it absolutely showcased a different artist. Effortlessly cool, assured and confident in her ability as a vocalist and creative powerhouse. When most dismissed pop-singers would try to show off their range with vibrato & guitars & cred, Kylie stripped Confide In Me's vocal back to an ice cool still, removing all embellishment to shockingly potent effect. This song STILL gives me chills 30 years later.

It reached number 2 in the UK, and topped the Australian chart. Was released in the US as a club track with some remixes but didn't do much there, even though it should have

By far this and the follow up album Impossible Princess were her career highlights… so many standout tracks that still sound so incredibly fresh today. I saw her tour these two albums and it was pure class. You could definitely tell she was much happier with her sound. I would love her to do something similar again.

I recommend you follow this up with a live performance of it, she has performed it on almost every tour since, it was missing from X2008, but I would recommend reacting to this at the For You, For Me Tour, in New York, the vocals are something else

Back then it wasn't the smash hit they hoped due to the drastic change for her. But now it is considered as one of THE Kylie classics and most signature songs. She loves it and keeps performing it to date. As time passed it even become more significant and more respected than some of her other more commercially succesful singles. It's more recognized by the general public than many of her other more succesful songs.

I remember when this song came out it caught the attention of all the people who had written her off as a bubblegum pop act and anyone who just hadn't paid her much attention prior to that. Serious musos came on board at this point as fans!

The first version I heard of this song was the "Big Brothers Mix" on Pete Tong and it blew my mind. Absolutely stunning house banger. Then when I heard this "Master Mix" I was uber impressed and bought the CD singles the day they came out (when I was supposed to be in school!). All mixes sound awesome still, 28 years later and this made a lot of people take notice of her and gave her the "Club" credibility she'd wanted the previous few years. A classic to this day.

We were all gagged when this came out. That whole album is a masterpiece and we used to have it on repeat in the restaurant I worked in at the time. Never get bored of hearing it. That ending is everything. The dance remix set the clubs on fire too. It is incredible. Good old days of CD1 & CD2 Remixes. 🤗

OMG I have sooooo much to say about this song. Kylie’s first 4 albums were written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman with some co writing credits by Kylie. on some tracks on the 3rd album and most tracks on the fourth album. She has signed a new deal with record company Deconstruction who allowed her the time to find her creative direction and make the record she wanted to make. When this song was released it went to number one in Australia and was a huge huge hit. It was critically acclaimed as a great piece of art by a pop artist. This was the record that helped Australia take Kylie more seriously. Her vocals on this track are incredible. It’s so original and different. There is still nothing that’s been released that sounds like this. She has performed this song on almost every tour since it’s been released and is recognised as an important song in her career. Love that you love it Empress.

There was a big build up for this song and the Kylie Minogue album. In New zealand there were posters all around the city advertising it. The billboards were just a close up of Kylie’s eyes and the release date.

Quite the big hit in her home country of Australia when this came out! Huge number 1! The new Kylie, the beginning, when she came into her own.

This track was such a shock (in a good way) at the time. It was Kylie's first release after leaving Stock Aitken Waterman, the producers who wrote and produced most of her first 4 albums (and who produced Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' and Bananarama's 'Venus', among others). No-one expected Kylie to come back looking and sounding like THIS. I read that Kylie had a new song out called 'Confide In Me', and when I first heard it on the radio, it took about a minute before it clicked that it was actually HER. It sounded SO different to anything she had done before. And then when I saw the video, it was another big shock. It's a pity Kylie didn't stick with this edgier sound/look longer term. 'Confide In Me' was also Kylie's first number 1 single in Australia in 6 years. She had lost a lot of her early popularity by 1992, but when 'Confide In Me' was released in 1994, it was like she suddenly became cool. I, like many others, kind of expected Kylie to fade away/stop having hits after leaving Stock Aitken Waterman, but this proved everyone wrong.

This was the lead single from that '94 album. The '98 album can also be considered Kylie 'The Artist". I like this song a lot, but I don't think the video goes with it at all. I always thought it deserved a darker video... maybe black and white. She really shines when she performs this song live. She's able to hold those long high notes really well.

It's a great song and big change of style for Kylie. There's a Prince influence on this track.

If you can check out a live version of this from one of her many tours, you will be amazed at her control on such a difficult song. yet another one of the turning points in Kylie's multi-faceted career. It wasn't cool to like Kylie back then ('cos of her baby pop image and simple pop songs) but we still went and had a great time at the concert. By 1994, things had changed dramatically. Kylie had grown up and us fans, too. This new sound and video had us all enchanted 🤩 A few months later, the second single: 'Put yourself in my place' consolidated her new chapter. Strong vocals, another new look in the video.... 'Confide in me' even had a digeridoo added to the musical arrangement!
