I recently made some embellishments for the Green Macaroni channel giveaway and I've been asked to show how I made the faux glassine bags. So here it is. These can be used in journal pages, or to store ATCs, tags and the likes.

Thanks for your kind comment Susan - and yes greaseproof paper, parchment paper and baking paper are virtually all the same. Some brands (at least in the UK) can vary a little - some as more waxy than others but with a good double-sided tape it should work on any of these. Hugs to you too :)

Hi Kylie, My tip for separating stickers from backing is to take two pieces of clear tape and gently adhere one sticky to the front, and the other sticky side to the back--both on the very edge of the sticker--then gently pull apart back from front. It works every time without marring the sticker! Good luck, my friend! Leslie

I have way too many pairs of those decorative kiddy-scissors myself and I have found that when they get really dull, I can sharpen them by cutting into foil (folded couple times). Usually this helps, same treatment works with punches as well. It would be great if we could buy those more heftier pinking shear type scissors with more designs! I have found only zigzag and scallop ones (altho in three sizes), mine are reserved for fabrics, strictly. Btw, love your accent! You could read the most gory horror story to me and I would still find it delightful.
@KylieCooStudio
@KylieCooStudio 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for another great tip Jane. I'll try doing that because I hardly ever use the scissors as they are such a pain. I will also try it on my punches - I've noticed my corner punch is very blunt now so hopefully that will help. And thanks for your kind comment about my accent - I did laugh at your gory horror comment! :)
@janemiettinen5176
@janemiettinen5176 5 жыл бұрын
Kylie, I couldnt agree more, those deco-scissors are just infuriating to use, but I still use them all the time, they are lot quicker than diecutting. The foil trick feels totally counter-intuitive and insane, but it works like magic. I find its always the corner punch and 25mm round punch that get dull, I guess I use them the most. And more intricate and detailed punches dull faster, if you use one to mass producing something, you better have the foil at hand already, it will be needed sooner than later. I could listen to you all day long! You could read something really uninteresting like beard grooming-guide to me and I would be enthralled. I bet if you read out my bills to me, it wouldnt feel so aggravating to learn about yet another 100 bug rent increasement or find out about hubbys newest speeding ticket. Wanna job? ;) What would it even be called - bill reader, bad news teller, shock absorber? Oh, mental novocaine, thats it.

i noticed that you used the decorative edge scissors so the points were left at the opening of the envelope, not the half-circles. i don't think you meant to do that. i think you showed one at the beginning with the half-circles on the cut edge, which would make it a little easier to slide the card into the envelope. i've done that myself, but have tried to take more care so i get the scalloped edge i really want. for beginners, it's good to know that many of those scissors cut designs differently depending on which side of the scissor is facing the cutting edge. a few make the same pattern either way. i like your demonstration. :-)

Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. I find those scissors frustrating because they don't cut very well and I probably just picked them up to get the job done and didn't think about the way they were facing - so yes you are right I didn't mean to cut that way. Me and scissors don't always get along very well! Thanks again :)

thankyou so much for sharing your time and skill. I'm a newbie to paper crafts. What are ATC's?

Hi Mari - thanks for your kind comment. ATC is short for Artist Trading Card - these are small pieces of art that measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches and the idea is that you can make them to trade (swap) with other artists. In 2017, I participating in a challenge where I made an ATC every day for the month of June. The videos are in a playlist on my channel and it's called ATCAD2017 - just in case you are interested in seeing more. Thanks for watching and for your question. :)

Is grease proof paper the same as waxed paper in the U.S., or is it like parchment paper? Thank you! Great tutorial!

Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. I would say that greaseproof paper is probably closer to parchment paper than it is to waxed paper - though you could probably use waxed paper as well. Hope that helps :)

What is the US equivalent for "greaseproof paper"? Both Wax paper and Baker's paper (parchment) will not stick to tape.

Hi Sandra - sorry to take so long to answer. Greaseproof paper probably sits somewhere between wax paper and parchment - I think that maybe the type I am using just has less wax than maybe you are using. The other thing that would probably work for this is deli paper (a variety that is either unwaxed or not too waxy) or tracing paper might be a good option. Hope that helps. :)

I guess you could use brown parchment paper to make vintage glassine style pockets. TFS

Yes that's a good idea - I sometimes used it as drop paper and then from there as collage. Some paints stick better to it than others! Thanks for watching :) xo

Hi Georgie - thanks so much for your kind comment. Thanks for asking the question - we all start somewhere and have to learn the 'language' so to speak. An ATC is an Artist Trading Card. Basically it's a small piece of art that measures 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches. It's called a Trading Card because the idea is that you trade/ swap them with other artists. But of course you can also keep them for yourself. If you are particularly interested in making these then I have lots of videos on my channel - in particular, if you hit the playlists button and search through you will see a playlist called #ATCAD2017 - I made an ATC every day during the month of June 2017 - so you can see there how I made each one and there is also a flip through of them all in the last video in the series. Hope this helps :)

Would this be wax paper or parchment paper in the US?
@KylieCooStudio
@KylieCooStudio 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question - sorry for the delay in replying. It's probably closer to parchment paper which I think has less wax on it (certainly the parchment paper I've bought here has less wax). You could probably use wax paper as well - just need to test that the glue you have works with it. Hope that helps :)

I was watching this on my tv and just had to look you up on my phone so i could comment. You do know if you flipped those scissors over you get a perfect scalloped edge. Im sure you know that tho, right?

Hi Brenda - thanks for watching and for coming on to your phone to comment. Oh dear, I always have trouble with scissors! I need to go back and see how I was holding them and then try them the other way. These scissors kind of annoy me. If I open them up just slightly too far then they lock open. I need to see if I can get a decent pair that can do scalloped edges. Many thanks for pointing that out - much appreciated :)

Hi Maria - what kind of paper did you use? If it was waxed then it might be that the tape was just not strong enough.
