Kyosho Mini-Z 4x4 modded with lipo battery and damped shocks

4 жыл бұрынOur ace driver, Avery drives the Mini-Z modified with a lipo battery to fix the high CG issue. 4 AAA batteries weigh 51 grams while 600 mah lipo is 14 grams. Power and run time seem about the same. Shocks were damped as well to control the bounce. Before and after videos reveal the difference.

Super cool, as always you have the best reviews, videos , I enjoy it all, really enjoy a lot. Just got into micro , they are awesome, I use Green slime on the end of a toothpick just to lubricate the inside of the shock cylinder , you know how of the 1/24 67 Chevy pickup , bounced like crazy. This eliminated that, works very well. I only done HR brass steering knuckles, and just the front brass dift cover, and aluminum bead lock rims , performs very well, again thank you for sharing

You could also bring the body height down a bit to help alleviate the top heavy issue by adding a little spacer inside the shock on the shaft. Will lose a little articulation but gain a good bit more stability. Sent you a pm on fb explaining it a bit more if you’re interested. This mod with a softer spring would do wonders

For sure, a little bigger tires with sticky, knobbies would do a lot for performance. Very hard to change these wheels and tires though since it's a proprietary wheel hub and wheel size.

The mini barrage one running off 2S lipo with servo on axle and using a 9 tooth pinion can actually crawl finally not geared too high

Hello, i buy the kyosho, i precise i have an scx24... Ther is a probleme with the gavity center in the kyosho cause of the four AAA so i change the AAA position ( only tow) I can assure you than this crawler is now perfect with is body. This is the solution you can try it i can assure you' ll be happy with this car ( more pleasure than with thd axial because it is now more performant and so realistic!!

I see people saying they only put 2 AAA batteries in the rig. How does this work? Does it require re-soldering? I don't have a model in my hands yet, so asking.

You should honestly try out the jimmy mini z if you haven’t, handles a lot better imo as I own both of them, the wheelbase of the jimny is a little longer which helps a lot and the cog is a lot lower

The 1S 600 mah lipo is so cheap and light at 14 grams! And a USB charger is cheap too. Another cool thing is any modern lipo charger can charge it with the right connector. And it's always balanced since it's 1-cell only. Avery is a cool kid with a great attitude. He was pretty flattered when I offered to let him drive it since he knew how special and rare it was. He took care of it well enough that I just let him drive it on his own for the next 20 minutes.

the first mod you should do is not only dampen the shocks but to add weight. The suspension design out of the box is majorly flawed. What kind of 4x4 in real life has their shocks fully extended at stand still. There is NO down travel on this out of the box. I added a few oz of weight to lower the ride height and compress the springs. It wheels WAAAAAAAY better. Now, with the weight, the suspension does it job when crawling over obstacles instead of the suspension staying extended and lifting the body of the vehicle. The suspension actually flexes and articulates now. Battery life will suck but oh well. If you don't want to add weight, you need to change out the springs to something with less spring rate. Then it will sag under the stock weight of the vehicle. I'm going to dampen the shocks now and it should be ready to crawl!

They already did that, the scx24 is the most capable stock and has endless mods, this kyosho is super scale but very fun not nearly as capable as the scx24. I have both and I like the Kyosho more but that's just me for straight crawling the scx24 is king of the 24th scale though .

@@RCReviewChannel i just did mine in a prehistoric way. Took out the receiver cover. Be careful, it is fragile. I snapped one catch off. And i used blu tack to cover up the gaps of the casing. Not the best way, but i think it works. Was thinking of coating the circuot board with marine grease but afraid that it would do more harm. Awaiting your advice. :)

It'll be even more top heavy with high CG. And really, all that weight is too much for the small tires and undamped shocks already.

@@RCReviewChannel Can be, can be.. For a lipo, wouldn't one need a voltage regulator for a 2s? If I was to mod it for lipo, I'd scrap the oem radio/esc including the servo.

I bought a Brand new kyosho mini z Jeep last week on Amain for $150 & they had a $15 dollar coupon for anything over $150 so I applied that & ended up paying $135.00 plus $2 dollar ship, for a kyosho Mini Z Jeep Rubicon that's Leaps n bound nice appearance & scale look then that of my scx24,. it's much smother drive wise, far better steering radious, & like I said no comparison on appearance!! catch em when there on sale.... 👍🏼

Yes, this does forward - brake -reverse. We don't think it can be set to forward - reverse

There is always the 1/24 axial which is about $110 if the $200 for the Kyosho pricetag is too much. Personally, I'd go with the Axial, but that's me.

About the same since this tiny one was 600 mA hours. We ran for about 30 minutes and it was still fine

The center of gravity looks horrible on the kyosho. Needs to have way less preload

Correct. Bus stop the springs are very hard with no sag. After we lost about 35 g of weight the springs will seem even harder but they are hard to change. Have to find a right Springs.

It's almost as if Kyosho really didn't consider the marketplace they were stepping into. Sure the got the looks of both the mini Z perfect but folks are going to want to mod these things. It must be so frustrating that every aspect almost is a proprietary part. It almost seems easier to set the body on another frame.? Good luck with it all. Cheers mate 👍
