I was born too late to have the privilege of seeing Sylvie and Laurent dance together, so I'm so thrilled these videos exist. There's something about watching Sylvie... she never seems to think about her next steps, but simply lets the performance flow out through her arms and legs. I feel almost hypnotised by her ballet, as silly as that might sound. Seeing this Manon in person must be a jewel of a memory for whoever was there.

Thank you very much for giving us a chance to watch this performance. The entire Manon by young Sylvie and Hilaire (and Romoli)!? My God, this is quite a treasure!

I absolutely love Sylvie's acting. The London years and her multifaceted career made her get out of the restraint of a more French corset and become the charismatic performer she became. I was in awe at each performance of Manon watching how her vivid intelligence and passion would lead her through the plot intricacies. And what is fascinating is that her acting skills irradiate to her entire body. Therefore even her arms and feet "speak". Who knows if some new artist will be able to be that compelling and enticing on stage.

Gillot is hilarious as well as Romoli. Amazing performance. Thank you for uploading such a treasure I had the chance to watch "on the spot"! Sylvie was back in Paris for a week if I memory is right.

Muchas gracias, adoro a sylvie guillem.

Same for me. When I saw this performance (this one, in 2002) I started to cry when she dies, it became worth when she went back for the bow and i couldn't stop till I went home (from Garnier to my place in the 15th district = 30 mn).

Not me who recorded this, however, I am grateful to whoever did film this because many people who didn't get to see these great artists live are able to have the privilege to see their performance now. I recommend keeping your negative thoughts to yourself, thank you.

I just watched and enjoyed it. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. What harm was done? A performance was recorded for posterity and for others to enjoy, maybe new dancers to learn from or be inspired by. I'm going to see Maria Osipova in Manon on Saturday February 3. I hope someone records it for others not so fortunate as to see a live performance
