I bought a pair of these about 7 years ago. The original sole was insanely uncomfortable and had zero grip. I resoled with a vibram lug and comfort and grip is much better, but I’ve ordered some Truman’s as a replacement. I don’t think I’d spend the money on these if I had to do it over frankly.

Hey Pablo! I have the exact same pair and it was great to see you take them apart and to see how they are constructed. I took them to my local cobbler to replace the existing sole with a vibram wedge sole. They wanted to remove the heel and sand down the existing sole and glue the wedge to that. What are your thoughts on this? Can’t seem to find anyone willing to go beyond that. Should I avoid this? Thanks in advance!

That’s not the way to do the job. You can ship them to me if you can’t find someone local and competent.

Why did you choose to do the rubber midsole first? Of the boots I've seen with a leather and rubber midsole, the rubber midsole has always been on the outside since the outsole adheres better to the rubber.

Because you can't splice a rubber half sole onto a rubber midsole

That redo looks so good. Those boots also look really comfy. What is your opinion on Ariat boots? I've tried them a few times but they just aren't comfortable on my feet. I do horseback riding so just need something comfortable, waterproof and slip proof and also not have any extra buckles or decorations. That LL Bean boot looks great. I'm looking for a new pair of boots but getting kind of discouraged.

Ariats aren't the greatest. We work on a lot of horse riding boots and Ariats seem to be on the lower end. Try searching "Goodyear Welted Paddock Boots"

i have to ask, why would a professional cobbler use bick 4 as opposed to febbings neats foot oil? cause in my experience they are roughly the same, but the pure neats foot is way cheaper and arguably better for the leather

Bick 4 is in a league of its own in our opinion. It's used widely by industry professionals and also by shoe enthusiasts. Nothing against Fiebings, I just don't use that product. Thanks for watching!

@@dimarshoerepair Bick 4 is a great product, and I know that it's a neats foot based conditioner. I actually don't care for feibings as a company, but they seem to be the only major seller of pure neats foot. The thing about Bick 4 is that your paying for water, preservatives, hydrogenated tallow(emulsified beef fat) and silicone, which I are not very good imo and can build up in the leather. Where as pure neats foot has been used for hundreds of years, and was military grade for the Army in the trenches of WW1. Also, literature says that neats foot will darken leather, but ime it's not any worse than Bick 4. Any ways hope you find this helpful.

@@dimarshoerepair In your shop, you probably see a lot of that. As someone who does not have a lot of money, I would never consider fixing something that is not broken.
