I actually drove one of those e-bikes when I there in August. It was on some back roads in Magalang only. That’s all they’re good for, Brian. Not meant to be driven on main roads.

I was there for 3 months in manila, quezon city area and only seen 2 harley davidsons in that time. Not many big motorcycle like we have in North America. Thanks philly for another informative video.

Good to see you're out and about!!! Your color looks good!!! Trikes are dangerous, not only e-trikes but all. They tip over to easy!! I had a CanAm Spyder that was real safe!!! Two wheels are on the front. At 100mph and still had a gear to go!!!

We bought a three/four seater e-trike Sept 2022 for my stepson to use to take his kids to the local govt school. It cost us 56,900php and has now pretty well paid for itself in savings on trike fares (both kids start at 7am but one finishes a couple of hours before the other. At 30 pesos per trike trip, it adds up pretty quick. I didn’t notice any appreciable increase in our Meralco bill either. I drive it every now and then and it has been handy for other trips too (visiting local friends, trips to local shops for odd bits and pieces, take-aways and taking our cat to the vet). I only drive it in our subdivision and on barangay roads. Have seen 8 or 9 year olds driving these things on our main highway here in Cavite (Aguinaldo Highway). There was talk about 6-9 months ago about having a requirement to register e-bikes, but nothing came of it. E-bikes were not all that common in our subdivision when we got ours, but now it appears that every third vehicle is an e-bike now

That LTO agency is the last address In Angeles City. Right alongside it is the Mabalacat City marker. There used to be a VFW post there, set back from the highway a little. There used to be bars scattered along both sides of the highway.

Accross the street from Ur yamaha place Philly…MRF..is where I take my car for maintenance. Like oil changes, tuneups, minor repairs. It looks like just a rims&tires place, but it’s a full shop. 👍🏽👍🏽

The problem with all of the E-Bikes is that LTO opened the unregulated door to these things and now they're going to somehow put regulations on these things by putting the tooth paste back into the tube

I think that the E-bikes and trikes need to meet the same standards as far as power and capability. I also think that motorcycle trikes should have enough ccs to properly move the side car or kulong with the cargo or people at traffic speeds. Many don't have blinkers, let alone brake lights that work . More people die in or because of these underpowered vehicles, and yes, drivers training should be taught in school just as we did . I know that this is just wishful thinking, and if things change, it will be slow as with everything else, lol .

I have a golf cart style e-bike so it is big enough for people to see. No license required and yes I have a license as I drove truck in Canada. I have a problem with motorbikes here. They weave in and out of traffic cut in front of you to make a left or right turn. Pull out in front of you without looking. Same with people driving cars and trucks. Lots of kids riding motorbikes here and tons driving with no license, insurance, registration. Here in Dumaguete there are rules to the road but they are a mere suggestion and no one enforces the rules. There are no stop signs or stop lights here. You drive at your own risk. They do sometimes have check points that look for registration but most drivers pull over till the check point closes or they find another way around. I won't drive a motorbike here as I never learned and it is no place to learn. I feel safer driving my e-bike than even riding on a trike.

Thank you for the warning on E-bikes. I bought one for P50,000. Saves me a lot of time on making short trips. I will keep watch to see if there are changes in usage and requirement changes. I don't use it, but other family members do. You are hitting all the right buttons for expats! Thanks again!

I ride a ebike in uk. It is good until, you hit all the potholes in the road. I imagine in the Philippines it would be impossible.

You only need 4 k pesos and you can get a drivers license in an express line if you know what I mean.NO TEST

From my understanding, some of those e-bikes can move pretty fast. If they go faster than a pedaled bicycle, they should be registered like scooters, and require a license. But that's just my opinion, even if I lived in the Philippines my opinion would count for nothing anyway, rightfully so, I suppose.

Registration for an e-bike won’t fix the issue here. They don’t enforce the current regulations with e-bikes, scooters, motorcycles and cars. It’s been a PHP 10,000 penalty since 2014 for driving an unregistered vehicle or motorcycle plus impound if unregistered for over a month per DOTr JAO 2014-1. Not to mention that the LTO charges a late registration fee. Thats why most abandon the impounded vehicle rather than paying all the fines and late fees. I bought my significant other an e-bike to transport her 2 kids to school and back. We were paying for a trike before. She uses it to go to Pampang market and bring her sister to my father’s home where her sister works in the mornings as a caregiver.

What about bicycles? They drive on the roads also because they have no bicycle lanes here in the PI. I do have an ebike that hauls 3 people, but I only use it to go up to Robinsons on our road, which is not a major road. I use the tok tok or a bus if I have to go further. Thank God I don't have a car or scooter. I don't have the patience or the nerve to drive on the main roads or highways. No car payment, insurance or gas to pay. The bus, jeepney and tok tok transportation out here is cheap, safe and convenient to use as an expat in a pretty good sized city which is piece of mind.

Hey Brian, I may have missed an update but just wondering how your doing with quitting smoking ? I smoked 15 yrs, Sept 1991 went cold turkey with the tobacco, then went to chewing tobacco for a bit, then went with a pipe for about a yr..then that was it ! :) Hope it goes well for you !

As an expat driver for over a year in Cebu, I have to say that I hate sharing the road with them. There are many of these trikes in Talisay city and they slow traffic to a very slow speed. They drive in the same lane as the cars and it is very difficult to pass by them. They are just too slow. It might be okay if there were bike lanes for ebikes, but there is no bike lane.

We have millions of real bikes that are E bikes..Treated exactly the same as regular bicycles.. we don't have those big trikes like that in the philippines

If you Google the Ariel Rider Kepler or Wired Freedom E Bike you can see the 2 faster 35-40 mph popular E bike's that people are buying here. Nothing close to these E bikes are sold in the Philippines. I don't believe people would spend $1,800 to $2,500 on a bike like these in the Philippines.

Hi Brian lot lot and hannah grace and Bing. I am back from cebu mactan island great trip enjoyed it fully looking forward to getting back soon.on the e bikes there in cebu cannot go on the highway I am not sure weather they can do that in Angeles City or mania. But it must be because it allows traffic to flow faster and better. Solar powered buses are great to get around on mactan island I also didn't see them along the highway great idea to keep the traffic flowing freely on the main highways and keep them within city suburbs. Beacause the kids appear to be Muslim, he claimed they might have been Badjao (boat people similar to Gypsies) Some originate from Tawi Tawi but I believe they are in many places in Mindanao and migrate to Manila and then now, Pampanga.
