L'ultima fiamma di cattolicesimo - L'Inghilterra e la rivoluzione - Elisabetta Sala

Oggi parleremo del periodo transitorio fra i regni di Enrico VIII ed Elisabetta I.
Analizzeremo il breve regno del giovane Edoardo VI, figlio di Enrico VIII e Jane Seymour, terza moglie del re nonché dama di compagnia della seconda moglie, Anna Bolena!
Edoardo, giovane e ingenuo, fu manipolato dai suoi reggenti, in particolare da John Dudley, duca di Northumberland, e da Thomas Cranmer, il famigerato arcivescovo di Canterbury che aveva annullato i matrimoni di Enrico VIII.
In questo periodo si accentuò nuovamente la persecuzione contro i cattolici del regno e ci fu una nuova riforma liturgica, arrivando, questa volta si, a girare gli altari.
Successivamente tratteremo il regno di Mary Tudor, detta ingiustamente bloody Mary o Maria la sanguinaria, che nacque dall’unione di Enrico VIII con Caterina d’Aragona.
Mary si impegnò a ripristinare il cattolicesimo in Inghilterra, riaprendo i seminari e permettendo nuovamente la celebrazione della messa cattolica; nonostante le difficoltà, in particolare l’opposizione di alcuni personaggi potenti rimasti luterani, Mary riuscì nella sua impresa.
Daremo uno sguardo alla situazione europea, allo scoppio delle guerre di religione e all’organizzazione delle forze protestanti anche grazie al Calvinismo.
Infine parleremo di Elisabetta I che salirà al trono dopo la morte di Mary Tudor, non per legittima successione, ma a causa di giochi di potere che vedranno coinvolti anche gli Asburgo. Purtroppo, con Elisabetta I, l’Inghilterra tornerà a seguire la linea protestante di Edoardo VI.
