Do you own a lowered, sports, exotic or slammed car? Or just a sports car? Do you want to know how to not scrape, scratch or crunch its nose on driveways, and stop your car bottoming out? This video explains why that happens and some techniques you can use to avoid it...and shows a lot of examples of how to, and NOT to drive across steep driveways. Works for Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Lotus and many more, and even Toyota 86s!
Also: how to drive over speedbumps!

Comments on Your Comments: NEW: How to Drive Over Speedbumps kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pcBxoMia2tCwcn0.html 1. "Don't drive a lowered car then!" first off, this applies to plenty of sports cars, lowered or not. Second, there are ditches and driveways so steep even a Camry will have trouble. Third, the same principle applies for lots of vehicles even 4x4s, trailers etc. You can see a variant of the technique for 4x4s here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ1lhpWLzpO9iJs.html And finally, your money, your choice, if you want a lowered car it's a free world. Enjoy your ride, live your best life and cruise by the haters who have nothing better to do with their miserable lives than throw negativity and judgement. Must be awful to just walk the street and be so incredibly annoyed by other people's choices you can't help but comment. I feel sorry for you guys. 2. "This is obvious how do people not know this" well, everyone has a different set of life experiences and natural talent, so no, it's not obvious to everyone, same way as the people making that point are unable to figure out this exact point. 3. Why was the car meet held there? That was just one carpark of many, and yes the organisers could have put a plank of wood down. But the driveway was driveable with the right technique, and my goal here is to spread the word of how it can be done, not mock people for not knowing. I wouldn't know how to plant roses or cook a lobster for example. Thank you all, carry on watching :-)

I would add the fact since so many people don't know this, it just goes to show how poorly driving schools prepare people. If someone doesn't think of this technique on their own, at least the driving school should teach you.

I learned how to do this in Lumber Tycoon 2. I had to collect tons of rare blue wood and then drive with a low car for about 5 minutes. Any time i hit a wall or floor with my car had a chance for all my wood to fly all over the place. I could maybe add to this video by saying that some cars have a better angle when driving backwards. bonus points when driving diagonally backwards

The reason for the slow is so the suspension doesn’t compress on impact, further reducing the approach angle. Also, it was interesting to see how many people stopped on crunch, and then went back down the drive edge, further increasing the damage. An extreme improvement is to be parallel to the gutter and actually use a tightly turned wheel to be the first thing up the gutter. Then you have to straighten up so the rear doesn’t impact the full kerb. It’s lucky some of those cars didn’t lose traction from lifting a drive wheel on the angle.
@L2SFBC
@L2SFBC Жыл бұрын
Good points, I actually thought about showing how to mount a kerb using the full-lock technique but left it out in the end. Modern cars have brake traction control which helps with the cross-axled situation.

This ‘angling off’ approach has an important side effect which also helps prevention of the nose grounding. Approaching on the angle means that both front wheels don’t ‘drop’ into the gutter throat at exactly the same time. Instead when ‘angling off’ each front wheel gets to drop on its own, leaving the other front corner to help carry the cars weight at that exact moment…. Can make an important difference especially when your car is really low (my Radical has an approach angle of less than 3 degrees!)
@L2SFBC
@L2SFBC Жыл бұрын
Exactly right, although having most (all) of the car's front axle weight carried on one wheel will compress the suspension more than if the weight was equally carried, but even so, angling off works...as the people shown at Cars & Coffee proved! A three degree AA is really low, must have great aero on that car :-)

Thank you for sacrificing your BRZ for this educational video. Can you please post on how to get up a ramp next? And when in reverse as well (as in parking to a high ramp, either in reverse or not)

6:05 lmao this remembered me just 2 days ago because I did this with my dad's car, I'm used to drive my car slightly angled to avoid front bumper scratches and when I borrow my dad's car its almost an instinct to do this, its quite funny to be honest, when he drives my car it scratches all around because he is also used to drive a higher car, its interesting to see.

I like how a lot of these cars just have front splitters under the front bumper because then you can scrape as much as you want xD...

This seems to be like fashion without regard to function. It is a suburban street street you filmed and a relatively flat one at that. I & I'm sure you have encountered narrow access driveways with far more severe transitions than this example - ones that the narrowness precludes changing the approach angle. Great business for the bodywork repair shops!

Yes that was easy by comparison to some for the reasons you mention.

A bit late to the comments, but I own a couple Mercedes with 10 cm from the ground, all factory original. (SLK 250, Sport suspension; B 200 Sport, Avantgard Suspension - it's the regular suspension, but lowered) This way to drive has been my safeguard to avoid scratches not only under the front fender, but all under the car. Here we have speed bumps which are not standard by any means, and the driveway of the condo where I live is at a steep angle. Much appreciated.
