I run mine with Nexens and side steps; a perfect combo! Lol! Seriously, some very good points around tyres etc, anecdotal evidence is very compelling! Very logic approach from the ‘4 different tyre’ owner, I can appreciate the rationale, although Matt from High Peak Autos would probably get pulputation’s! Lol! Great content, keep up the good work.

My 2011 gearbox has had two oil changes in its 130K life. One at 80 and second at 120. Transfer box, diffs, every fluid changed including PAS. I run General Grabber AT3 in 255 55 20. Superb 😎

Another really helpful video and interesting to hear about the Scorpion tyres, I’ve had the Verdes on my current and previous XC70s, without any problems, but then they are much lighter. Nice to see you have some L322s that aren’t black! Black cars look lovely when clean, but I’m too lazy to constantly wash my cars. For me, wheels have to be silver (but then I’m 50 and an old and miserable 50 at that!). Another colour wheel probably wouldn’t stop me buying one, if everything else was perfect as used Range Rover wheels are readily available and I’d just change them. Really nice to see the preparation you do, certainly gives some peace of mind.

Thank you for your video, really interesting and enjoyed watching. I noticed the car on Ramps possibly has electronic side steps? Interested in your view regarding these, I have a autobiography 59 plate and one side is not working. I believe you have to strip them down clean and relubricate to make sure they're working correctly? Also, would be great to see the control arms being changed if you have the chance to show a video of the same. Just started following you. Thanks for doing the videos that you have so far

As always an enjoyable and informative video. Side steps I wouldn't have one without. I have them on my 2010 RR Sport. Tyres I've had the Iota Tyres found them good but noisy, recently changed to the General Grabber GT+ Tyres (275x40x20) and they are quieter if a little crashy, but after 1k miles I'm happy with them cheaper than the Pirelli's. You're right regarding maintenance keep on top of them and they will be great. Ref Gearbox & Diff Servicing, I had my Gearbox "mega flushed" at 120k along with Front & Rear Diffs and Transfer Box. I Use the Ravenol Brand of Oils and I also us the PAS/ACE Fluid their engine oil is great but pricey. Keep up the good work

As you’re trading I’d say keep the gun metal grey and side steps. But for my personal L322 it silver wheels and deployable sides steps all the way…. Especially with a Baltic blue finish which mine is.

Side steps: some people find it very hard to enter and exit the L322 and couldn't do it without the side steps.
@fullfat4x4
@fullfat4x4 22 күн бұрын
It’s a valid comment for sure. In my experience (and those of passengers) the fixed side steps don’t offer much help - they are a bit too high to be helpful. The deployable steps on the other hand are very good - they deploy out to a level where you can actually step up into the car from them. They also retract nicely (when working!) to preserve “the lines”. I’m not keen on the fixed ones as even the OEM ones seem to rust quickly and the rubber/plastic on them quickly start to look shabby. Making use of access mode when you come to a stop could offer the right balance of accessibility and looks. At the end of the day though it’s all personal preference if someone wants sides steps it’s their choice and their car! Fortunately fixed steps can be easily installed or removed.

I’ve just fitted BF Goodrich Trail Terrain - which like the General AT3 are a great compromise all-terrain tyre. Haven’t really noticed much, if any, impact on fuel economy and very stable and comfortable on tarmac. Not yet had a chance to use them off road.

BTW : when you put the L322 on the ramps do you use low ratio ? I’m concerned about running off the ramp end or for plastic ramps, having the car rip them along the ground and break them as happened to me with a Honda civic believe it or not.
@fullfat4x4
@fullfat4x4 3 ай бұрын
Gently-Bentley as the saying goes - first few times I did it in low range - but then as the vehicle went past the crest of the ramp It accelerated so had to stab the breaks on. Now I keep it in high range with a very light right foot and hover my left over the break. There is a knack to doing it smoothly.

The gearbox is not sealed for life! It is in the Maintenance schedule (or for my MY12 it was) can’t remember the exact parameters but 10yrs/90k rings a bell. I found the same with front diff also, oil was noticeably poor compared with the rear

I can’t remember where I saw this - it was a Land Rover service sheet that said words to the effect of: light duty - not a serviceable item. Heavy duty (I.e lots of towing) every 50k miles. But - Land Rover are not the oem. So I’d go off the ZF recommendation on interval.

My struggle with tires is that I want to run an AT tire but can’t find one with a high enough Speed Rating. Maybe it I’d just my area, but to get them installed they have to meet a minimum speed rating. Anyone else have this issue or know a way around that? Continental makes a good street tire for the L322.

Hi FF, after looking for these tires i can only find 255.50.r20 from Halfords, there you fitting these to a 20inch alloy?
@fullfat4x4
@fullfat4x4 18 күн бұрын
Hello - I’m not quite sure I understand your question. 255.50.R20 is the standard tyre size for the 20” wheel. It is possible to fit a 255.55.R20 to the L322 20” wheel without any issues. However your speedo will read true speed. General Grabber AT3 tyres can be bought on either 255.55.20 or 275.45.20. My preference is the 255.55.20 as a bit more side wall gives a bit more comfort. Hope that helps you.

How often would one expect to see a check engine light or other dash lights when owning one of these? Would it be possible to go a full year without seeing one?
@fullfat4x4
@fullfat4x4 3 ай бұрын
Good question - when I was running my 2012 4.4 TDV8 as a personal vehicle in 12 months I had the following issues: would get an occasional click on pressing the starter button - needed a new starter motor. after about 6 months of owning it I also noticed some belt squeel so had the tensioner and a couple of the idlers replaced while doing a service And... that was it! I covered just over 8k miles in the year and didn't have a single warning light on the dash, no EML, no Amber or Red warnings, no christmas tree lights. And I'm lead to beleive a lot other owners have similar experiences - I quite often speak to people who have had 3 years trouble free motoring (yes they have needed to spend money on preventative maintenance - but haven't been left by the side of the road). User expereince may vary though!
