This engine came out of a 2022 Ford F-150. We completely tear it down to see what happened to it. I’ve never seen that before

A strong block, surprised there are no holes in the block. Definitely save it. So you need new internals and a head.

Fixable for sure. Throw sleeves, pistons, rods, and get crank checked out and should be good for 1200+ easy. Couple nicks inside the block isn’t gonna hurt anything. Great core for built motor. If you really wanted you could maybe even save the head but be a little bit of work. Probably worth just getting a new head and build that as well

Brett Lasala just won Sick Week with the best average et over 5 days at 6.4 sec with a sleeved Coyote with aftermatker rods and pistons but a stock crank. Was also the quickest car of the intire event inlcluding 500+ cube big blocks. I you are on NC and you don't know of any shops who are experts in Coyotes you need to get familiar with Real Street Performance in Orlando Fl Or Roush Racing in Concord NC

The stock cranks can handle over 1500 HP, its rare that you would ever need to swap one out for after market 😎

The block can be honed out a good bit and be sleeved. Just needs a new bottom end and a new cylinder head for bank 2.

I want to think that the pistons got extremely hot and they blew and thats why there was metal balls in the engine also the piston skirts were really worn down too I think it is because of the catalytic converter because usually a supercharged engine has to breathe and when it can't Anymore the amount of heat that will generate in side of the engine is gonna be unbelievably high heat which will make the pistons expand and potential blow i have seen a simlar thing happen on @autovlog 2015 vmp supercharged f150 but that wasnt as bad as this check the autovlog diagnosing his vmp gen 3 supercharged f150 on vmp performance youtube watch the whole thing when they thought it was a oil pump gear and crack sprocket it turned into more work but go and search the video and understand what happened there it could be a similar thing like I said but also worse

That head can be welded up and redone yes, new valves and seats cuts and send it….. dont throw it away

From what I understood researching these new 5.0 the way they are made they are not even 302 but more like 309-10 and there is nor room to sleeve and put bigger piston rings I believe it has something to do with plasma blah I don’t remember It’s late lol

My guess is oil pressure/circulation. Piston got too hot and with lack of lubricant it begin to lose its rigidity during high RPM’s and broke off and got demolished by the crankshaft. It was semi-melted (I made that up) which could explain why it didn’t punch a hole in the engine block. Maybe they didn’t do the break in period. My guess is that the engine had poor circulation/faulty. Another theory could be that the oil ring around the piston was faulty and oil mixed with the fuel. Final theory is that the piston was slapping against the wall and broke off due to oil starvation.

3.0 duramax and the 2.7 ford have had no issues with them. I will change mine though at some point and that for sure is annoying

OUCH!!!! I subbed the other day.. I might have you put my whipple on.. but are you the owner? Was the engine covered under warranty? That will tell me how hard I want to push my brand new truck..😂 Edit: man you know your way around them coyotes!😮 Edit2: commenting as I watch... Are these forged pistons?

Those pistons on the drivers side look like they've been steam cleaned...but the head gasket didn't look blown...was it? 🤔

It looks like it went lean on the one bank and stuck that piston. Without being there and see first hand it hard to be sure. It looks like the head can be fixed. Something is definitely wrong with the fuel delivery. I would get to the bottom of it. The truck could be experiencing the same thing now.

Wrong fuel was used. Plus octane booster. Truck runs great. Over 25k miles on it now.

Have you removed the oil pump drive sprocket from the crank? Im trying to determine if the crank snout is different from other generations of coyote.

Would have also been good to see if the lash adjusters and cam followers from non-deactivated cylinders would fit to replace the deactivated cylinders. Ill have to get my hands on a 21up truck cylinder head.

Yikes. Did it lose fuel pressure on the one bank and melt a piston? That side looked clean like it wasn't burning or had a massive coolant leak to steam clean it.

What would be your advice for oil pump belt….when to replace or does the actual oil brand helps…..

Not even sure. There haven’t been any issues with them, maybe a chain would be better 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m sure someone will have a solution when the time comes

Isn't cylinder #7 one of the four cylinders that will deactivate? Wonder if the cylinder deactivation had anything to do with that.

That option is turned off in the Whipple calibration. Wrong fuel was used by the customer

It can be sleeved, they punch all that material out anyways to set the sleeves its still USABLE! BUILD THAT BITCH!
