With the NBA playoffs approaching, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue takes time to sit down with Fred, Ryan and Channing before the NBA’s post season frenzy.
Enthralled by the journey of a young man who made it out of Mexico, Missouri, Ryan guides the conversation from Coach Lue’s upbringing to his close relationship with his family to the power of sacrifice and finding success through gratitude. Because of that, his responsibility to take care of his family, especially mother and grandmother, fuels his work dedication.
Coach Lue recalls the moment his life was changed when he was drafted to the league and how it became his purpose to take care of his family and continue to evolve as a man through playing in the NBA. Playing with basketball royalty in Kobe and Jordan, Ty never took for granted his opportunities but also learned quickly the value of hard work. Lue explains the infamous Allen Iverson “step over” moment and how he attributes the longevity of his career to that play.
Using his leadership skills from being a teammate and playing with some of the biggest personalities and most skilled in the game, Ty talks about how he got into coaching and who gave him the final nudge pushing him to know that he would be a great fit for the job. From experiences with Kobe, Shaq, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Doc Rivers and many more, Ty Lue shares personal stories that truly highlight his career and the respect he has for them game and the game has for him.
Being known as more than just a coach, Ty Lue is focused on being an example that young black and brown kids can be something special and make it if they work at it. Winning a championship with the Cavs, Coach hopes to duplicate that success in the west with the Clippers and is very confident with his team in the post season.

Ty Lue is a real one !! I met him & Chauncey Billups the year Michael Jordan came out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards. I was promoting LL Cool J's single "Luv U Better" in NYC & when I went to go pick up my check at the club, my friend & I decided to sit in some VIP seats for awhile to take in the atmosphere. Out of nowhere, Ty Lue & Billups walked up to the ropes & asked if they could sit at the table next to us b/c they just wanted to chill & not be bothered. I gave the greenlight & eventually we all had a conversation. It was that convo that Ty Lue told us that Michael Jordan was coming back to play at 40 yrs old for the Wizards. And this was before it was announced. We knew before ESPN & all major news outlets !! Both Lue & Billups were cool af & I'm glad to see both of them are NBA coaches now. Salute & much respect to both of these champions on the court & in life as good people.

Lue is a real dude. He was blessed to get those 2 chips early that way, that wasn't his focus. Now he could get the bread. Knowing your role is key. The fact that he said he knew he was a role player and accepted that is the reason why he made it that long. He has no ego. That's the biggest asset to a good team. No ego

People like Coach T. Lue are GEMS... not only has he played with and been around some of the greatest minds that the sport has ever brought us... but he soaked all of it in, carries it with him, and isn't just willing, but DEDICATED to passing it on to everybody that comes after him. That is one of the most admirable traits in a human that will ever exist.
