This has helped me understand this so well. I just need to get on a ladder and do it now! I couldn't do it before but after seeing this 10 times, I think I got it! lol

For a rescue situation, my academy was taught to put it directly under the window like that, for roof access we're taught to go 5 above

Good video and I like the technique. Curious why you typically work fly in...

Well done video. I am confused about your statement that you normally have the fly in - but for this rescue drill went fly out. Both "Alco lite" and "Dou safety" ladders recommend fly out for all of their aluminum ladders. They have even gone so far as to place a sticker on the fly section with an arrow indicating the proper placement. All in all I like the video - keep training the younger generation.

This skill has been updated in two ways. BTW.....I've taught this skill since 2001 and have been involved with FF SURVIVAL/RESCUE since 1997. I. Once you 'hook two', ball up that fist AND KEEP IT BALLED UP. We've broken multiple wrists grabbing the beam. 2. Downclimb instead of sliding the beams. I'm talking multiple ankles broken before we learned.

There's something I think that should be done that I have never seen in these videos. At the top of the ladder mount a Evacuator Alarm/Strobe Light so that the guys inside can see and hear where the window is. Even in daylight, the smoke can get so bad you can't see the window. At night, you can get completely disoriented. They have remote control ones so you can leave them off until you need them to avoid all the noise.

I've never seen it done in real life either... I am guessing it is either a space issue or an expense issue (or both).

North American tactics are awkward to me. Self rescue here in Germany is only executed through rappel, mostly because the angle of the ladder is way steeper and we don't go in like maniacs
@davidschifter12383 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should try it and see if it works for you. Otherwise don't criticize what you don't know.
@almerindaromeira83523 жыл бұрын
@@davidschifter1238 no need to be rude, I'm not insulting anyone. We also don't need it because our houses are not made out of wood and fires spread slower, it gives you more time to do the job right
@jonathanmorrisey5771 Жыл бұрын
@@almerindaromeira8352 Coming to the video late, you DID insult someone. Here in the U.S. the ladder climbing angle is 75° as I'll hazard a guess is standard across the globe. The rescue/bailout/escape angle is 60-65° here. Here in the commonwealth of Kentucky, we're greedy. We teach the headfirst ladder escape/bailout and we teach the rope escape/slide. It is not a self-rappel. The headfirst ladder escape is faster and keeps you lower in the window if you're in pre-flashover conditions. Now, don't tell us that you have no modern construction and no new synthetic furnishings.

Keep in mind North American tactics you see in this video is simply a tool in the toolbox. Many of the people have bail out repel bags enough to go down three floors. North American tactics is to have ladders at every window possible so if someone needs to bail out its fast. Its not uncommon to see 7+ ladders on a structure fire at windows. If i go to bail out of a room and a ladder is already in place im not pulling out my bailout kit. I Isolate that room if I can and bail out onto the ladder. I try not to think of you vs us when it comes to skills like this. Another tool in the toolbox.
@almerindaromeira83526 ай бұрын
@@jonathanmorrisey5771 our goal is to have 3 rungs of the ladder past the window sill. I can't simply slide onto the ladder, rather I have to approach it from the side. We don't have an angle for bailout because the bailout is rappel. Every firefighter under SCBA in Germany has 30 meters (~100ft) of rope as part of his basic equipment along with the carabineer and harness. And we do have IKEA furniture, but the walls are made out of either masonry or concrete. We don't have carpets like you do. Fires don't spread as much. Realistic scenario is for a kitchen to burn completely and maybe the adjacent room.

Once out and on ladder why not just walk down ladder as usual..
@scottallen83295 жыл бұрын
As Trey said, it's a bail out situation (life, injury or potential death). If you happen to be the first one out, there may be more coming out behind you (quickly) so you want to get out of their way ASAP. In reality, you would slide the ladder much faster than they showed.
@isitwasit87565 жыл бұрын
