In this episode of Ladi's Rockucation, Mark concludes Ladi's rockucation of Van Halen by watching Mammoth WVH's "Distance."
Yes, Mark has reacted to this one before, but the story of Eddie Van Halen isn't complete without Wolfgang's emotional tribute to his father.
So get your tissues ready, folks. This is Ladi's first time hearing and seeing this video, and it's an emotional one.
This is the third part of a three-part series on Van Halen.

Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked this reaction. This song and video might be the most perfect artist expression of grief that I've ever experienced. I'm glad you liked our reaction. I hope you check out more of our stuff.

I've heard this song and have seen this video and it is so endearing but my favorite part is at the end, Eddie's voicemail to Wolfie. I am so glad that was included in the video.

Damn you! This song is amazing. He is so talented. How beautiful. And such a touching and fitting tribute to his Dad. Having lost my own just a few years ago this hits an the right feels. And I'm not ashamed that I cried through the whole thing.

I'm really sorry about your dad. Todd, the other co-founder of the channel, and I both lost our moms to cancer. Losing a parent is so tough. Not a day goes by that I don't feel that pain. I love this song so much. I don't think I've ever heard a song that so perfectly captures the grief that I felt and continue to feel from losing my mom way too early. I'd actually reacted to this video when it first came out, but I didn't think telling Ladi the story of Eddie Van Halen was complete without this epilogue. And like I said in the episode, we saw WVH play in Emo's, which is a tiny club here in Austin. That show was, hands-down, one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. I have to imagine that people seeing Eddie for the first time in 1978 probably felt the same way.

I keep good channel open and check it for replies etc. He was a great dad and my sister and I miss him. He was almost 55. I don't know this song but now I'm going to take a listen. I just finished Eruption: Conversations with Eddie Van Halen, and the authors, Brad Tolinski and Chris Gill, said that Eddie was that affectionate to a lot of people. They said if he considered you family you were getting frequent hugs and kisses.

Yeah, if you're interested in EVH, it's a fantastic book. I consider myself a life-long Van Halen fan, and there were things in that book I'd never heard before. There's one point in the book where they're discussing pop music with Eddie and what he thinks about "bad" music. His response was so great: "Music is not the Olympics. It’s not a sport. It’s a form of expression. There is no such thing as bad music. There may be music that you personally don’t like, but if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it and shut the fuck up! Don’t listen to it and complain about it. There’s lots of music that I don’t care for, but you can’t say it’s bad. That’s subjective. That would happen if we put out something new now also. After we released our first album and were done touring, we recorded our second album. When it came out, the critics and some fans went, “Hey! It’s different than the first one.” Well, yeah! It’s a different record. If it sounded like the first one, then fans and critics would complain that it sounded the same. What the fuck?" I just loved that so much. Thanks for commenting.

@@LikeMindedLunatics Wow! I know you love EVH I have been on this channel before and know the love you feel for them! Thanks for all the info. I find it very very interesting. It must be hard as a reactor to listen to music you dont like. I have tried to be open minded but i finally said no more.I was listening to it and than complaining about it. I will continue to take Eddies advice on that! One of the reactors on here got a gift of EVH guitar during unboxing !Its amazing what people send!

I found VH when I was 17 from Dime bag Darrel. 😭😭 I didn't know that Wolf was touring with them for emotional support. I've see M live, he is amazing and love that Wolf made a name for himself and didn't bow down to fan trying to make him be a cover band.

This is actually the second time I've reacted to WVH. I usually don't duplicate, but I felt like Ladi wouldn't get the whole picture without including Wolf's tribute to his dad. And one of the things that occurred to me after filming a second reaction to this one is the lasting power of Eddie's legacy. I mentioned it in the video, but we saw Wolf here in Austin in a tiny club, and he was so, so amazing. And you could see the impression his dad left, but also that Wolf was a wonderful artist in his own right. And I'm just like you. I'm glad that Wolf is acknowledging the impact of his father while also blazing his own path. I truly believe that in a couple of years time, Wolfie will be headlining huge shows just like his dad. Standing there in that little club and being blown away by WVH, I had to think that the people in The Wiskey A Go Go back in 77 probably felt the same way watching his dad.

@@LikeMindedLunatics Definitely you can't leave out Wolf, you tied it all together nicely. I learnt new things in these videos too, I honestly haven't been able to listen to VH since Eddie left us, but you made it easy to listen to the songs again and have absolute respect for Wolf. I would of loved to seen VH in the late 70's and to seen "Eruption" for the first time, their minds must of been blown. Stephen Percy was so lucky to have that experience. It is good to see that my generation won't let rock die, now he will be the Jimi Hendrix, the EVH, Randy rhoads of my generation.

If you get a chance to see Wolf, take it. He's going on tour in 2022 with Dirty Honey, and if you haven't seen them, they're great, too. Very Black Crowes, blues Zepplin kinda vibe. "Stephen Percy was so lucky to have that experience. It is good to see that my generation won't let rock die, now he will be the Jimi Hendrix, the EVH, Randy rhoads of my generation." And the really fascinating thing is that unlike Hendrix and to some degree Rhoads, we have a TON of video footage of EVH both on and off stage. I remember growing up with musicians and hearing the reverence for Hendrix, and all those guys watched the same footage of Hendrix over and over and over because lots of good quality footage of Hendrix just doesn't exist. But with EVH, I can sit online for hours and never run out of it, which, I have to think for future musician whom he will no doubt influence, they'll have so much material to see.

@@LikeMindedLunatics Dirty honey, I wonder if they like Mudhoney. Faith no more cancelled over here in Western Australia, because Mike Patton is going through metal health issues so I'm down to just GNR, if I can get tickets I'll definitely go see Wolf next time he comes to Australia. Black crowes are a great band and Zeppelin I use to play their albums to d**th and don't listen to them much these days but If I hear a Led Zeppelin song on the radio it never disappoints. Is it because they only have Woodstock footage to look at and some live tours?, they take all the great too soon but you are always left with their best. Oh yeah EVH, I need to go on a binge of the live videos, so many musicians wanted to be EVH but he is one in a million.

Yeah this song is just so, so powerful. And the video just takes it up to another level. Seeing Wolfie with his dad in all those home videos really humanized Eddie. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. If you haven't seen it, you should also check out the reaction I did of WVH's "Don't Back Down." The song itself is freaking fantastic and really showcases Wolfie's real range. And the video is pretty damn funny, too. He has a great sense of humor: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l8WGgqt8uqfFg30.html
