Lady and the Tramp VHS & DVDs Comparison

I have made another comparison for Lady and the Tramp. This time though, I have the 1999 DVD and including it with the comparison, alongside is the 2000 UK DVD. What's weird for the 2000 UK DVD is that it's in pan-and-scan, even though a Full-Frame of this film exist which they could've used, but didn't. It's not just the UK, other European countries also had this. I found files from the Web Archive of the VHS that work on my Windows 7 and was able to make this. There are more comparisons for other Disney films so prepare yourselves. Enjoy.

Hmm... the wide screens are nice, but the older 4:3 ones help keep your focus on the characters better in my opinion. The '98 is the best compromise.

I love how Lady doesn't have to say anything in the entire scene, and for Tramp to see her predicament. Also, wearing a muzzle IS really agonizing for a dog. 🥺

The Rescuers is another one that's good to compare with the 1992 and 1999 VHS, and the DVD and Blu Ray copies. Like I said before, the 1992 VHS has the movie in pan and scan fullscreen, unlike the 1999 VHS which presents the film's original open mated 4:3 ratio. Of course the DVD and Blu Ray releases are in 16:9.

The film's 1999 Maserpiece Collection LaserDisc was in letterbox format containing the (matted) widescreen aspect ratio of 1.66:1

Although the open matted ratio version on the 1998 VHS is better than the pan and scan version, I still think the original Cinemascope version is a better option. You see more on the sides.

Plus it was shot that way since it was one of the first Disney animated feature film movie to be shot in CinemaScope.

I find it peculiar that in the 1998 vhs version of this movie, the three junkyard dogs are closer to each other than in the other versions.

The 1998 VHS release is very different from the other releases. There are more music, less audible dialogue, and vocalization (like in the original theatrical trailer) instead of singing of the “Peace On Earth” reprise in that release.

@@cbsteffen, they also accidentally cut off Aunt Sarah's tone-deaf "Rock-a-Bye Baby". If you play the 1987 VHS on a VCR in a certain monural audio setting, it also cuts off Aunt Sarah's singing.

I believe the 98 print is using the academy print instead of the normal pan and scan one

The 1987 VHS has better colors than the 1998 VHS, but then you have that pan-and-scan job, compared to the 1998 VHS using the Academy Ratio print prepared for non-widescreen theaters back then.

They're basically the same as the 2006 DVD except in a higher resolution.

1.29 i like the 1987 VHS vision when the camera is only zooming im on the leader of the bandits dogs and when i was a kid and i saw this secne i got freaked out by that face and it was kind off funny.😅😂
