Robert Perry on the Robert Perry Facebook Fan Club posted this comment about Lady K Sailings Hans Christian :) Robert Perry - I was skeptical when I saw this but the guy does very good job with it. He says a few silly things but most of what he says is accurate. I give him credit for having the balls to even get into the design controversy. Probably the best overview of the HC 36 I have ever seen. Thought you should know Robert Perry is stalking you😁. Well done Tim👍

Thank you for the Mirage story. My dad purchased a Mirage 35 new in 1987. It was intended for someone at the Windsor Yacht Club, but the deal feel through. Dad traded in his Kirby 30 for the Mirage as he decided to stop racing and start cruising. Prior to the Kirby, he owned a C&C 27 Mk 1, the best racing sailboat he owned. Dad knew George Cuthbertson from university days and George flew his plane to Sarnia one day to see the boat. Dad spent many years cruising Lake Huron and the North Channel in the Mirage 35, as well as providing a start boat for local races. My wife and I now own the boat and I have always been impressed with how it handles and how comfortable it is, although my wife does not always appreciate that it likes to be sailed upwind with the rail almost in the water. We have sailed it to Lake Erie (stopping at the Windsor YC) and did a 28 day "round Lake Huron" sail a few years ago - up the US side, crossing into the North Channel, then down the Canadian side back to Sarnia. We plan on heading back up to Georgian Bay this summer, knowing the boat will take care of us.

I purchased a new C&C Landfall in 1982 to live aboard in Rowayton Ct next door to Bruce Kerby. We talked about design and another designer in Washington, Bob Perry. I later purchased a new Saga 43, Perry design, built by the same labor force that makes C&C"s. Canada has some excellent history building boats.

Thank you so much for featuring the C&C 24 & Mirage! I put blood sweat and tears to bring the one I found back to life and I'm super proud of her heritage. Working with the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston to restore my C&C 24 Niagra has been amazing.

I am also up to my neck in bringing my 76' C&C 24 to tip top shape. What a fun boat to learn on! Really cool to hear it mentioned, it only has a PHRF around 231 but seems to be one of the faster boats around the marinas here.

Hey all. Couple of corrections from someone who was there. 1st off thank you for the video. As well, Dick Steffen is a German imigrant, Irene is an English speaking Montrealer - neither are French Canadian. Pointe Claire was the sales office, Dorion and Vaudreuil were the manufacturing. The is no relation to the Mirage 5.5 mentioned below. Great stuff, keep it going!

An excellent summary of the Mirage yachts story. I am on my 3rd Mirage, first was an M24 and I won many a regatta with her. Then a M33 out west and now a M25 here on lake Erie. Great boats that have a dedicated following. Can't go wrong with a Perry Boat ;)

Greetings from Leamington, Ontario, an hour south of Windsor/Detroit as you know. 45f and rainy today. Nice to see recognition of some of the very capable boats made in Ontario. Mirages were very popular and well constructed sailboats. Enjoyed being on a friends Mirage 27. Sadly they and so many other decent boat manufacturers passed away the victims of poor economy’s and higher costs.

As a long time sailor and Montrealer I thought I would chime in on a few details....Dick and Irene are Quebecer's but they're not French Canadians. Mirage's used Isomat Spars. The factory was in Dorion Quebec. Their last 3 models built were the 275, 29, and 39 all designed by French designer Philip Harle. At the end of the road Mirage had briefly merged with Tanzer also built in Dorion.

Gosh, do I remember the Mirage's??? Of course I do! I even LOVED the naming game. All of them used numbers, and were VERY specific (as I recall?). The 10.x something...I loved the aluminum toe rail (a block anywhere needed for whatever you were flying at the time). blacked out racy side windows- it looked fast standing still! I'm sure they were fine as beer can racers, but- I think I'd struggle going too far off shore with one. But, they were fast... Great review & tons of interesting info- Thank you very much for all of the research!

Last year I Simi retired and a friend of mine tried to sail to Newfoundland, where I am originally from. It was a great sailing experience, learned a lot. We didn't finish the trip, due to bad weather. We made it to John Beetz Bay in Eastern Quebec. The boat is in Sept Illes for the winter season. We are going to continue the voyage in July. I really like your videos and I have been learning from them, thanks! Where are you living? Stay safe!

I just watched this video with the most important man. Involved in the design of the boat in your video. Your failure to mention him is stunning. . He was the owner of Miraage Boats. Perry was his business partner responsible for sails.. The design of.that Boat belonged to my friend. He started the company. He was a master boat builder from Berlin who came to Canada in 1957. He sold the company and all the mounds and drawings to C an C when the inustry collaped. My friend is now 86 years old. He made that boat fast. His name is Wolfgang Dzimbowski. We were having one of his home brews while watching your video. He was upset that you got it wrong. He bought his partner out two years before he sold the company. Just thought I would set the record straight. Wolfgang was the man behind this boat.

The Mirage 24 hull design was also built by Northern Yacht as the Northern 1/4 ton. It had yhe "C&C" cross emblem at the bow (Mirage didn't). The C&C 24 of the same era was a diffetent design. BTW, any mention of the Mirage 26 / 27 should include a heads up on the auxiliary they came with, the infamous "OMC Saildrive".

My second boat was a C&C 29 Mark II, a VERY fast racer cruiser with really good accommodation down below. Very fast when raced which I never did, but the previous owner told me he had to "throw away" trophies because he had too many of them. It was good for two people, fun as all hell, but a bit tender at times due to how light she was. When we started a family, with small kids onboard, it was a handful in higher winds with no sun shading. With a really heavy keel and light everywhere else, it "hobby horsed" in the short chop of the Chesapeake Bay. I have to somehow bridge the chop to make the experience more family friendly. But having sailed "fast" once, I couldn't go "safe and slow". I did a LOT of research, almost purchasing a C&C 32, but it had some issues and I passed. I had always through of Catalina as just run of the mill production boats, but was turned on by one particular model, the Catalina 320 (A Rob Ball design), which I ended up purchasing. It had a huge cockpit which was great for the 4 of us, and great accommodations down below. It also had really decent performance, especially when the 3 blade prop was replaced by a folder. Certainly not the fastest in that size range for sure, but I have embarrassed some much larger boats. Also never felt unsafe when out in some stuff.

As you talk about Diane who bought a 26 Mirage. The picture shown of a sailboat named « Penny »is a Mirage 25 a newer design which i love. That boat is quicker than the 26 and the interior is better too. I like thé head alf on port side. So you can sleep in the v birth or anywhere else without having your nose at one foot of the head (toilet) like in older canadian design in 70s. Not talking about the impressive headroom for a 25 footer. Next picture is a mirage 26 tho.

So happy to see this episode as I am purchasing one of the few Mirage 39s made. The survey concluded it is a very well built boat. It is still listed on Oriental Yacht Sales web site. As a commenter below mentioned, the still photo credited as a Mirage 39 is not the right boat. The split backstay and port light arrangement is different. I would love to know how many 39's were built before the line sadly shut down.

Laguna 30? I guess they only made maybe 20-30 or so before the factory burned down. Basically a Catalina knock off. Perhaps not enough interest but maybe interesting. I own one of the few remaining. PS: Met you in St. Augustine when you were here.

Wish I had some sorry. There is so little information out there on Islander :( I can't see filling a whole episode unless it is just on the I36 which I would have to find one to show in real life.

I'm a big fan of performance sailboats, specially the stories behind them. I know Tartans get hate, Sabre's are no longer in the sailboat business and rarely talked about (I really like Sabre 42), but wondering what are the other larger racer/cruisers (performance luxury cruisers) out there? .... Share your 'super fun fast' boat for under $100k / around $300k / over $500k+ -->

I don't think there is anything weird about canadians making sailboats. Think of us finns we have 0km of shoreline that doesn't freeze over during the winters😂 and still we have had plenty of extremely good sailboat manufacturers over the years. Most famously around the world ofcourse Swan but MANY other manufacturers aswell.

Hey you mentioned in a previous video that you would be interested in vloging from a subs vessel and I wanted to express my interest in hosting. I am planning a possible trip this summer to the North Channel. I have a CAT 30 that is modified for distance travel on the Great lakes. We do up too 36 hours continuous travels and sail over 1000 nm seasonally. we are not the most experienced but we are humbly willing to learn. I would love to host you for a vlog in the North Channel if I have room and if you are interested. You know the vessel and the accommodations so if you are interested let me know and we can explore the logistics.

I own a M30 and I would not say that it's a good racer. The boat is tender and you have the reduce the sail really early
