Documentary about George VI and his wife Elizabeth, King and Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions. The story of King George and his Queen, Elizabeth, is one of goodness growing into greatness. In a short reign, just 14 years, they created an ideal of the British Royal Family. This documentary examines the legacy they built, a legacy that lives on in the way that their eldest daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, rules today.

Churchill recalled he visited the Queen Mother who was practicing with a pistol in the garden. He asked "What are you doing Ma'am?" The Queen's response was "I'm practicing for when the Huns come. They won't take me alive." She was a brave and glorious woman. There was good reason Hitler called her the "most dangerous woman alive."

I think it was noble of queen Elizabeth, The queen mother, to say that the children were not going to go to Canada without her & she would not leave without her husband. Come what May during World War II, they were going to get through this together.

How dare Prime Minister, say Elizabeth would do anything to stay Queen. She nor King George VI wanted the position they got stuck with. They made the best of a bad situation and they made every issue that came their way work well when Edward the 8th abdicated. Mr. Prime Minister, should have gotten reprimanded by the King for talking crap about his Wife!

Why do so many documentaries not know that king George v had a 5th son named John. They always say "the youngest George..." but the youngest was actually John. The poor boy had a short and difficult life and is practically erased from history.

"the courage to hide the truth" that is not courage it is cowardism! That is so vile!
@mariafury1047
@mariafury1047 4 жыл бұрын
R. F. I think you need to do some more research on the period of time. It wasn’t cowardice considering the state of the nation during the war. It was deemed essential to keep people’s spirits up, to keep their will to fight going. It was often how things were done in that time period. To create mass panic would have done a lot more harm to an already fragile nation.
@logandarklighter
@logandarklighter 4 жыл бұрын
@@mariafury1047 You are correct. And think of the secrets that needed to be kept by all the Allies in order to win the war. Particularly in regards to the Atomic Bomb. It was a terrible thing to do, dropping those two bombs on Japan. But the alternative would have been much much worse for both the Allies and for Japan had those bombs not been dropped. Similarly, the bombs that Churchill had to allow to fall on parts of London instead of tipping their hand that they had broken the Enigma codes of the Nazis - that had to have weighed heavily on Churchill and King George alike. Secrets of that nature are a terrible burden. God bless George for doing what he could to lesson Winston Churchill's burden!

How did she become queen when Philips only a prince??
@shellbythesea12
@shellbythesea12 4 жыл бұрын
Because she is/was first in line heir to the throne. Philip was her husband,not her brother so he could not inherit the British throne
@seriiman37
@seriiman37 3 жыл бұрын
Because her husband was a king so that makes her a Queen Consort. Queen Elizabeth II is a Queen Regnant, means that she became queen because of her birthright and her husband became Prince Consort because Prince Philip is married to a Queen Regnant.. There is no King Consort as the tittle king is higher than a queen. Same situation with Queen Victoria where her husband was entitled as Prince Albert and not king
