What did you make of Sam Laidlow's disqualification? 👀

Now that I heard that he did not lose the Kona-spot, I understand him more 😄 I don't know why nobody seemed to know this during the race. Is the rule so unclear?

About Kallin's record bike split in Vitoria: he only ran 3.03 marathon, so I'd say he pushed too much in the bike-leg. That's one way of doing a bike-record!
@DesertTriDadАй бұрын
I see a lot of AG guys do this too, they brag about their crazy fast bike split but are horrible in other legs. I don’t quite understand that, definitely be proud but triathlon is all three sports.

Your comment about Varga on the swim was absolutely wrong. You stated you did not watch the race but I am assuming whoever wrote the script for the show did. Laidlow and Varga took turns at the front of the swim and even Laidlow did backstroke several times when he relinquished the lead.
@markthrelfall3577Ай бұрын
We personally write the shows, so it's likely we could miss something given that we were busy racing all weekend ourselves. Varga is more than capable of swimming faster, and anyone would happily sit on his feet even if he eased up. Trust me, I've swum on his feet a few times 😂 It's a common tactic to get someone to come around, much like in cycling. But maybe you're right, it was pre agreed among them
@KG780cАй бұрын
@@markthrelfall3577 Thanks for the response. In Sam’s latest video he discusses the meeting they had prior to the race and the strategy they would deploy to work together during the race.

How seriously should I take Robert Kallin's cycling record? He was the athlete who crossed the center line during Sam's conversation with a referee. I'm looking forward to Roth next year. Hopefully the weather will be more spectator-friendly. It will be exhausting as a spectator again. 😂

I got two 8th place finishes at the age group duathlon national champs this year, in a sprint triathlon I give up 5 minutes or more to the field on the swim. So a duathlon is definitely not the same 😂.

Hey guys, I did Swansea 70.3 and during the run watched a competitor being paced by what seemed to be his coach (he has a tri coaching group top on, I saw him join the run shortly after T2, he was stood waiting)). This person was feeding him, and at one point even went through a food stations collecting drinks and sweets for him! They ran together for at least an hour. Similar to what you said in your drafting video, if someone needs to cheat to take part then that’s up to them, but im frustrated that someone can so cynically break the rules for so long and the officials didn’t put a stop to it. Interested to know what your thoughts are? Do rules just not count for non competitive age groupers?

There were 100 other ways of ensuring that Sam served his penalty, but no, the referees went straight to disqualification... absurd.
@AndrewisTri-tn1uoАй бұрын
The ref's job is to enforce the rules. If the rules are dumb, you have to change the rules, not get mad at the ref. Otherwise the outcome will just depend on the Ref's mood and how they feel about the athlete at that time.
@HashBrownDoylerАй бұрын
I’m pretty sure if you do not serve the penalty at the next available penalty tent you get DQ

Talking of 2 top 10 finishes in 2 of the most challenging races of the year as "pretty average result" shows your poor knowledge. He is well qualified in Kona thanks to a win in ironman Italy at the end of 2023 (4mn search). Pro series rewards ironman racers. The ranking should change after Lake Placid and Hawai, but he'll be well placed in the end.

Pure joke that Sam has still validated. He dq'd. Where does this end. Say I cheat and cut the course get dq'd but i still validate as I finished? He didn't finish according to the ref and the rules. No other sport acts like this. My post is NOT aimed at Sam but Ironman themselves
@nickbarnes3162Ай бұрын
But are you the World Champion? The whole point is that he needed to VALIDATE - not qualify. By finishing, irrespective of whether he was dq’d or not, he met the criteria as outlined by Ironman. For anyone else OTHER than Sam Laidlow (in this instance) it would be pointless to continue, so you could cheat, get DQ’d or anything else - you still wouldn’t be VALIDATING your Kona slot!
@donryan3646Ай бұрын
@@nickbarnes3162 My point is a DQ means he did not technically finish therefore did not technically validate. This makes a mockery of the rules IMO. He should race again and validate. If this were earlier in the season that's exactly what would have happened, its just he has left it too late now to do 2 70.3s or 1 full IM. Ironman are just tinkering with the rulebook to accommodate him now.
@triathlontimmyАй бұрын
@@nickbarnes3162 a DQ is not a finish, its a DQ
@nickbarnes3162Ай бұрын
@@triathlontimmy He crossed the line, therefore he finished. He was DQ'd from the results. He's met the criteria that Ironman have set out in their rules. It's not really that difficult? Whether we agree with those rules or not is irrelevant. If they subsequently change the rules, then that's a different story, but Sam raced and VALIDATED according to the rules in place at the time
@marcuswills6569Ай бұрын
The whole validation thing is pointless, only applies to the World Champions. Just give them automatic qualification for the following year.
