In This episode, we explore a favorite bicolano dish called Laing. We share a fast and easy way to cook our best laing dish!
What is Laing?
Laing is a Filipino dish of shredded or whole taro leaves with meat or seafood cooked in thick coconut milk spiced with siling labuyo, tanglad, garlic, shallots, ginger, and shrimp or pork. It is from the Bicol Region, where it is known simply as pinangat.

Masarap na ulam ang ginataang laing. Mahusay ang pakitang turo sa paraan ng pagluluto. Tatlong malulutong na palakpak para kay Nadia!

Hi Ms. Nadia, this is my 2nd comment in your entire videos: I love to watch you cooking especially your beauty! Anyway, my lola ang lolo are pure Bicolanos, I know that is your version of Laing but in part of bicol, laing is not sauteed, everything is boiled. Sa ganyan karaming dried taro leaves mga 1 1/2 litters of gata then the purong gata ay panghuli po nilalagay. Ganito ang nakikita kong luto ng mga bicolanos, 1) boil the gata on a big and heavy casserole para di matutong, it takes more than 1 hours of cooking. Importante na haluin ng haluin ang gata muna sa umpisa pa lang po para di mamuo ang gata, pag kumulo saka pa lang ilalagay ang bawang , sibuyas, tinadtad na luya or tanglad, pork ( or the delicious dried fish, labahita) then put raw bagoong, salt, shrimps, siling labuyo, and taro leaves. Pag kumulo na saka na hinaan ang apoy and simmer the laing for more than 1 hour or two. Pag luto na saka pa lng ibubuhos sa ibabaw ang kakang gata. Then cook it for another maybe about 5 minutes. Ay, napakasarap ng ganong luto, mas masarap kung sa palayok niluto. Its either labahita and shrimp or pork and shrimp ang sahog. I prefer both. Sana makatulong po kasi my lola’s laing ay most requested pag may party sa office. 😃

I agree that's how it's done traditionally in Bicol. Just talk to born and bred Bicolanos who cook. However, in cooking there is no right or wrong if it's your version.

Thank you for this Miss Nadia! I was born and raise in Bicol pero I don't know how to cook laing ...we also call it "Natong" :D Ngayon na wala ako sa Pinas, youtube ang inaasahan ko sa recipes. Bakit mahilig ang ang mga Bicolano sa Gata? Opo agree ako sainyo, dahil sagana po ang niyog sa Bicol ... mahilig rin po sa maanghang kasi kung purong gata, nakakaumay.. Naalala ko ng bata pa ako pag sinabi na "Gulay" ang ulam automatic na may gata ... pag walang gata, Ginisa, ang tawag.. :)

Ang gusto ko talaga sa show na to, maliban sa madaling sundan yung procedure ng pagluluto, budget friendly pa. Hindi gumagamit ng ingredients na mahirap hanapin at nagbibigay din ng suggestion kung ano pwedeng substitute. More videos and blessing pa po, Ms. NADIA. I❤U. 😘😘😘

Yes po Ms. Nadia tama po kayo na kya mahilig sila sa gata dahil madami po koprahan sa bicol and tanim ng sili labuyo. Dito sa manila bihira na makabili ng labuyo puro n po thai chili. Kya pag npapauwi kami bicol dami nmn uwi labuyo niyog and pili at lubi lubi 😊❤️

I love the Spanish dishes you shared like the paella. My father cooked a lot of Spanish dishes when he was alive because he was half Spanish from Barcelona. Just like you, I grew up eating Spanish foods. I have been to Barcelona many times, and my most favorite place is the market " La Boqueria" I can spend all day there, buying spices and eating😜.
