you could remove the door from the closet in the playroom and use a heavy curtain instead! that way you can still get into the closet if you have to put a couch there

Paint murals!!! No need to worry about the prints not being large enough if you decorate the walls yourself. I did that in my old apartment and I loooooved it

Big design wallpaper was a thing in the 70s. In my house that was similar to yours, I put it in the kitchen, a coordinating plaid in the hall and on one wall in the tv room. In the living room, I painted one wall with an accent color.

Becky from The Sorry Girls is really into mid century design as well. She also just bought a mid century house and is slowly working on it. She thrifts and DIY’s and such. You might get some inspo from her. Also, I’m sure you likely already do, but good ole Pinterest and mood boards. You can take pictures of your rooms and load them onto your iPad or whatever you use and you’ll see the space a bit better. Our eyes do a lot of editing and selecting and it can be hard to “see” the space when you’re standing in it. Take a good pic of each room, the areas you want to focus on and then play around with virtually adding and moving things around. If you’re not sure about hanging things on the walls and their effects, you can just use painters tape or paper and put them on the wall and live with it for a few days. You’ve got a lot of walls to decorate. I wouldn’t try to do them all at once. Do one room at a time, come up with a plan for it and execute that. That room will then inform what comes next. The playroom is going to be an absolute disaster for a while yet. I wouldn’t even worry about doing a thing to it yet. Start with the room you want to give you that design high the most. That can be your island of joy while the rest of the house takes shape around it. It takes time to curate a house but honestly, enjoy this stage where you have little because before you know it you’ll be wanting to rent a big ole bin and shovel it out you’ll have so much stuff lol. Enjoy the empty. For real. It’ll come. ❤

Something you could do to help exaggerate the ceiling height on the tv wall (11:08) would be adding some crown molding at the top of the wall! Hardware stores sell trim for relatively cheap and it adds character without feeling overwhelming. It's all coming together so cute!
@eloisewalker9549
@eloisewalker9549 Жыл бұрын
Crown moulding isnt quite mid century though...to exaggerate high ceilings in midc while keeping within the style codes of the era, I would keep lines (furniture, wall decoration etc) low. We did this in our old apartment and it kept the room feeling airy without drawing attention to the low ceiling. Look for low profile furniture - side boards, sofas, coffee tables - that fit within this profile. Then you can play with levels of height with elements that arent topheavy - like a tall spindly tree for example, giving the room balance without weighing down the ceiling visually and keeping things airy. 🪴

i know youre a big paige wassel fan but something like her mod century unit on the front living room tall wall would be super cool, or modular wall shelving in general. pays homage to the era of the home while still feeling modern+functional, and you could diy or do an ikea system for cheap

I love your pink and green kitchen, its super cute! Also the living room its looking really good with the traditional bordeaux rug, the more modern pieces of furniture and the pop of color with the chartreuse pillows. I think you can find a big piece of art on some thrift store or antique market and that way the living room would look more eclectic and elevated.

If you’re going with mid-century modern, look for a pole lamp for where your mom’s lamp is, or beside the couch, if you read.

you could for sure do the tv in the playroom on the wall that you want it on and just do some low profile mcm chairs in there with a cutie little table in between them in front of the tv then just like floor lamps/plants on either side of the tv and back on the other wall where you said the tv “should go” you could just do a little console table or bookshelf ((: it’s looking cute tho(: i like the greenish yellow paint personalllyyyy. but the chairs could be like red even or sum.

kinda weird but if you want to put the tv on the wall in play room that’s connected to the dining room, put a mirror above the couch where you can see the tv from the dining room. it’ll be backwards but you can still watch 🤷🏻‍♀️

One good advice, when you designing a room you dont have to push everything to the walls you can put the couch in the playing room just on the carpet edge that way you can walk around them and you can also open the door. ✨🌷 But it is a coomon sense that you have to push everything to the walls and corners but actualy the room can be more functional if you put furniture in the middle sometimes 😘

I love your house so much! Great idea that wooden booth in the kitchen, I think I’d really tie in the wood from the cabinets. I think if you’d put retro wallpaper on the wall behind the tv it would make it so much more special. Maybe the butterfly print can go into Lucy’s playroom and put a long (fake?) hanging plant from the ceiling! Maybe you could also print some photographs to put up all over the house? I also really like the olive-ish trim in Lucy’s playroom, I think it really ties the room together with the kitchen! As for the Togo couch, maybe you could put it on its side; put the backrest through the door and go in with a curve motion? Anyways thank you for all the effort you put into uploading, and I hope you don’t think I’m a know-it-all, I just want to help. Lots of love! ❤

9:46 maybe installing a sliding door or barn door type thing would be nice with that closet. Since you have alot of empty space next to the door, and that way you could fit a chair or some form of setting and it not be in the way

I think you need to play around a bit with a color palette tool before adding anything more, it will save you time and money... and it might help to think more in terms of tones and balance rather than actual coors from the get go... the wood in your house adds a lot of warmth so it will help to figure out first whether you want to accentuate or balance that out.. then you can decide if you go warm or cool toned colors.. also pay attention to contrast: in the kitchen for example you have the muted 'dirty' pink and added the muted 'dirty' green which dulls the whole place a lot... it's fine if that's what you're going for but is it? (usually kitchens can take a bit more playfulness). As per the living room I'd add something crisp and 'clean' like navy blue, or something 'rich' like burgundy with maybe some mustard yellow to brighten things up.. best of luck,

i think adding art above the tv would be too busy, but around the sides is super cute like you did. i think that the wall above the couch is such a large space that 1-3 large prints would be cute (spaced out), or a gallery wall with a variety of prints, shapes, sizes, etc. random idea - an upholstered ottoman for ernie's dog bed that can live next to the couch, so he's right there but not directly on it.

I think if you're going to put a print that size above the living room couch it should be landscape instead of portrait, or do a photo wall of sort. Or a tryptic print could be nice. Or three of a theme. I really like Toulouse-Lautrec or Leonetto Cappiello for prints because their work is poster art/ ads from the early 1900's and have a very cool colourful style. Love how the house is coming along!

Have you considered a retro print wallpaper for your living room? The picture above the fridge looks okay because it has toning colours. I'm not a fan of carpeting and don't even have rugs. With a crawling baby, you want to be able to quickly clean the floor as often as required. I say ditch the rug, but the decision is yours.
