G'day mate, have to say that this is a brilliant video, love it, informative and interesting, thank you so much for sharing your tips, lures, favourites and just an absolutely brilliant video. Thank you, just upgraded my lure collection as a bit like yourself ive struggled with just using Sugapens :)

Hi Kevin, glad you liked the video. I mostly use owner trebles, unless I can find BKK which are a bit better. On the 60mm double clutch I use a size 14. On the 75 mm a size 12 and on the 95mm I use an inline single (also owner) not sure on the size ATM but I will check and update the post. If you're planning to get a few double clutches, I know that the new 2018 range comes fitted with owner trebles as standard,

Hey Jason, thanks for watching. Nice to get positive feedback. There are a lot of lures on the market as we know...manufactures are having a great time catching us fishermen...! Yes there are good alternatives to sugapens like rhe presso minnow for whiting, but the sugapen is deadly just on dusk for just about anything that likes prawns. The next six months will be prime time in the lake for sugapens at dusk...tight lines.

Also, I don't change the hooks untill they break as they're really sharp which helps with the first few fish, they just don't last very long, as they tend to break when you remove them from the fish (very brittle)

I am finding daiwa presso but my local tackle not sell it, what is the difference and which one is more suitable for whiting, bream? And what size you prefer for whiting? 60mm or 70mm. I was trying sugapen 70 hf-264 but just catch tailors. I am trying the diving strategy, hope it help. Thanks for this valuable video ! 😁

@@trstormvn thanks for the questions. The presso minnow is more shallow in the dive depth and has a rattle, whereas the double clutch has the weight transfer piston and is silent. In very shallow water the presso minnow in the brown suji prawn colour is my favorite for whiting. In slightly deeper water (up to half a meter or more, I would use the double clutch 60 mm in the same brown suji prawn color.

That was 2 years ago 😊 but as you will realise its not about collecting, the object is to discover what works and to only buy what works. I now top up my lures with multiple spares of my favorites. Where I used to go kayaking with a range of lures I now usually only take about 20 lures for a morning session and in most cases I only use 5 or so, as soon as you find what colour is working on the day, it's just depth and retrieve that varies

Hi. I don't have the packaging anymore for the assist hooks and I have also stopped using them. Although they do work by catching more fish, they corrode very quickly and are not suitable for long term use in salt water. I have started to use fangs (BKK) saltwater trebles instead. This allows for a smaller hook suitable for whiting and they don't corrode.

Thanks for the video. I share your frustration of surface whiting luring. Could I ask what retrieve you use with the Daiwa presso minnows? Cheers
@AlluringFishing
@AlluringFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Terry, there are a couple of retrieves that work for the whiting, either very steady (but not too fast), letting the action of the lure do its work, or a slower slightly twitchy retrieve with very brief pauses. Also the double clutch 60mm now comes in the brown suji prawn colour as well which works really well. Try to find a shallow drop off on the sand flats and try the incoming tide about 30 mins after the turn of the tide casting over the drop off and working the lure back across the drop off...either direction has worked for me.

Thanks for the great video. You had braid as the main and mono as the leader. Just wondering why mono as leader is preferred over fluorocarbon? Thx.
@AlluringFishing
@AlluringFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I use both mono and flouro. I have different setups on different rods. On my 7ft rods i will use 8lb braid as the main line and then I have one rod with 6lb flouro leader, one with 10lb mono leader and one with 20lb flouro leader. The mono floats so I use that with surface lures. The flouro sinks so I use that with diving lures. 6lb for flathead, 20lb for tailor. Mono also has a bit more stretch than flouro.

Hi mate, do you ever use Sugapen 95F to catch whiting? I am practising to use Sugapen in Sydney Harbour, but look like it scares the whiting away.
@AlluringFishing
@AlluringFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Hi. I have had reasonable success with the sugapen 70 on whiting in the HF119 colour. I have found the 95mm sugapen to be not as effective on whiting in the lake as the 70mm but the advantage is that it casts further, and will catch tailor on the surface. I haven't tried sydney harbour for whiting, so can't advise other than to find a good sand flat with water not more than half a metre deep and a steady retrieve, no pauses when they follow the lure. However the retrieve for whiting on the surface is something of a black art and takes a lot of practice. Other good surface lures for whiting are the daiwa silver wolf 70mm in the brown suji prawn colour.
@trstormvn
@trstormvn 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your detail instruction and sorry for late reply, I tried few days to practice and apply your tips to find the first whiting of my lure, unfortunately I haven't success yet. I have catched tiny tailor and lizard but not whiting. I have bought Sugapen 70mm C264 (because they run out HF-117 :((( ). I have seen people catch whiting on that color but no luck for me yet. I don't know whether I haven't applied correct technique or Sydney's fish are so clever and picky, I see them but there is no attraction with lure :| I have tried to replace the tail hook by assist hooks, but I feel the assist hooks not heavy enough to have a balance for lure, the sugapen not create walk the dog action properly when using assist hook.

Alluring Fishing thanks so much. Do you find that attaching a snap swivel to the lure reduces the natural free movement of the lure in the water ? Some people suggest using a rapala knot or loose knot ?
@AlluringFishing
@AlluringFishing 5 жыл бұрын
@@thebestisyettobe5506 no I don't think the swivel snap hinders the action of the lure at all. The loop knot or rapala knot allows the lure to move freely from side to side, which is exactly what a swivel snap does and the swivel prevents line twist. If you look at the pro bass fishermen in the USA, everyone uses snaps. In my opinion there's no need to tie a lure directly to the leader by way of a knot these days, you need to be able to respond to the conditions and available fish quickly or miss out and swivel snaps allow that speed and flexibility required. My sessions are max 2 hours and I usually land decent fish in a session.

I use the sugar deep mainly for flathead, in water of less than 1 metre deep, mainly sand flats, making sure that the lure makes contact with the bottom, kicking up puffs of sand...To cast into structure along river banks etc. will surely catch trevally, bass, perch in NSW or barra in QLD amongst others...
@AlluringFishing
@AlluringFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Also remember to add in a good amount of pauses in the retrieve. It's usually on the pause that you get the strike... The suspending sugar deep is really effective in the pause because it stays at the depth that you pause it. You can also get very technical and test your lures to see whether they suspend or rise on the pause. If the lure rises, you can add lead tape to make it pause perfectly...fishing with lures is very technical but so rewarding when you crack the code... good luck mate!

Hi Henry. Interesting question. I have tried the 120 sugapen in the HF-119 colour off the beach on windless days. I have yet to catch anything with it, mostly because it doesn't cast very far and it's just easier to catch fish using metals, because you can cast the lure exactly where the fish are. However, I do think that the 120 sugapen will work well in the Swansea channel for kingfish or tailor as I have had success there on 110 rapala shallow divers.

Hey Paul...sorry for being slack....I have just had a very tough year in my personal life, so haven't really been getting out there. Hope to do some fishing over the break. I'm working out a strategy to get mulloway....setting a high bar I know but thats just me

@@paulvictor9368 thats funny I didn't realise....thanks for your support....life changing event boet....I'm sure you get my drift (thats not a bait that I'm drifting either 😂) I used to live up that way myself and to be honest I found the fishing down here in NSW way better, but maybe I just got better at it 😅
