Lake Mulwala, Fishing Off The OLD Majors Creek Boat Ramp

Did you know that there use to be two boat ramps at Majors Creek at Lake Mulwala? I use to launch my boat off the old ramp before it was closed down. I never could understand why they closed a perfectly good boat ramp. In this video I am fishing beside that old boat ramp, which is still there today but is unusable.

I have SO many memories of that spot, both fishing and duck shooting. In the late 60's and early 70's would catch thumping redfin and quite a few tench as well. Shooting with the Law brothers when grumpy had his shack at the other ramp. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Thanks Ross. I knew Grumpy. I still have one of his custom made fishing rods here. Hom and his wife were very close friends to my grandparents Bob and Joy Alexander. One of Grumpy's grandkids actually follows me here. I remember walking along the bank of the actual Majors Creek shooting ducks as a teenager, just up from the lake. Life was so much simpler back then wasn't it. Everybody got along. There was no ego, less Greenies, and more people willing to share the campfire and tell a yarn.

@@robbiefishing so true, mate. As a young bloke I got heaps of tips and coaching from older blokes on fishing and shooting trips. Kevin Law taught me the importance of swinging through the target when I first started. Like being coached by a guru of the sport. God I miss those days!!

Hi Ross, I'm Grumpy's Grandson. I'm glad I have seen your comment. I have many memories of this place also, fishing and duck shooting as a kid and teenager in the 90's and 2000's with my Dad and Pop who are both long gone now. - All the best mate, Ben.

@@robbiefishing Hi Robbie, we used to get as far up majors creek as we could in a tinny chasing ducks. Up in the everglades there was a 44 gallon drum on a tree that Grumpy used to shoot out of, I wonder if it's still there, haven't seen it for 20 years. Where the new ramps are now in front of the old shack is where the original ramp used to be. I was told Grumpy built it back in the 50's, took him a lot of work cutting into the high bank, all hand tools in those days. That ramp was in a poor state when i was a kid before it was rebuilt.

Wouldnt be surprised if the little taps were blackfish. I used to target them in black duck creek near howlong. Always at sunset, tiny hooks and fat worms, little taps was the only way they would bite. Biggest catch was 45cms. Excellent eating. Keep up the good work Robbie!!
