The load-outs are technically legal, the thunder hammer and lightning claws would all have the same profile and can still take storm shields.

For the question of legality, the Vanguard Veterans are legal (ish) because the only melee weapon available to them is the "Vanguard Veteran Weapon." Seeing as the models are Vanguard Veterans, and those Lightening claws are their weapons, I'd say it counts. For the company veterans, the can be run as Sternguard Veterans. The shields wouldn't have any rules, but they do all have Combi weapons. Promote the current sergeant to being a Captain or Lieutenant (calling the hammer a "Master Crafted Power Weapon") and promote one of the regular guys to sergeant (perhaps the one with the red stripe) and you can add a Veteran with Pyreblaster or special Sternguard Heavy Bolter. The Apothecary can't take a chainsword anymore, but oh well. The rest of the list is perfectly legal in 10th and comes out to 1265 points if I've done the math correctly. Terminators would make an amazing addition, and not just because I am heavily biased in their favor because of how cool they always look. They are very strong right now in 10th, and also just always feel right in every army!

These have such a great, scrappy, "old school" 40k feel- I love the Firstborns and all of the freehand painting!

That autocannon/lascannon loadout for predators was my loadout of choice back when I played in 5th edition. Autocannons were just as good as lascannons against transports, and better against landspeeders and some monstrous creatures. Plus it saved a third of the cost of each model compared to the all lascannon loadout.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Lementers, but I couldn’t stomach the yellow. I’ll stick with my Dark Angels, which I’ve been collecting on and off since 1990.

I remember ripping the guns from my predator multiple times, just because I could not decide. Luckily, those metal parts broke away without beein destroyed. :D

Beyond lovely

I imagine if a Chapter is low on Astartes, like the Lamenters during their penitent crusade or the Shattered Legions following the Drop Site Massacre, a good way to bulk out their fighting strength would be to use vehicles. A new Space Marine requires years of creation and training to bring them up to battle ready. Whereas a vehicle can be fielded as quickly as the Tech Priests can manufacture/repair them. It's likely the Lamenters had to scrounge around battlefields, looking for blasted wrecks of tanks and planes, to strip them of parts or to cart off the chasis. Simply to act as a force multiplier for dwindling Astartes numbers. (This also applies to things like sentry turrets or the like). A Techmarine and accompanying Servitors wouldn't go amiss. Even if the Lamenters don't _make_ Servitors, for ethical reasons, battlefields are replete with ones abandoned in the turmoil. Ones that a desperate Chapter might repurpose for battle. Servitors might also be used to co-pilot things like Landspeeders and their variants. Only one Space Marine is really needed to drive the thing. The Servitor can ride shotgun, manning the -shotgun- melta or whatever. Stick a Servitor upper body onto the sitting legs of the co-pilot. (Although you might need to kitbash your own Servitors in that case, as until recently they could only be found in metal. But it's not like there's a shortage of humanoid models and parts that could be combined into a new lobotomized drone).

Love the army. The little touches of personality and individualism is great. After a few years of Orks, decided on Nurgle Marines, then, and still, Space Wolves, as Ulremarines, Blood Angels and such just looked too samey. I've done plenty of conversion work! Grear build on the green stuff legs, too. Didn't come out too bad. Glad to hear the other half keeping you in line. Or should that be in clothes?!🤣 Brilliant video, great showcase of the army, with a few tips and inspiration, along with some wholesome humour. Spot on. 👍

I totally agree with not giving Devastator Seargents expensive Close Combat Weaponry. He recently painted up a Squad of RTB01 Marines as Mantis Warriors with red helmets and shoulder pads as Red Corsairs allies. Love your content. B

Lovely collection as always. I'd justify jump pack marines in a boarding force by saying they'd need manoueverable marines for fighting on the outer hull of enemy vessels. The old chaos marine backpacks with the exhausts on longer arms are actually a canon "anvilus" pattern power pack which horus heresy books mention as having the exhausts extended to work as manoeuvring thrusters. Surely a jump pack is just a more powerful equivalent of that! I believe everything in here is still playable. The breacher shield marines all admittedly can't use their shields but they'd work fine for sternguard. Similarly the vanguard with shields all work fine (even getting the shield save), but their melee weapons all count as the same "heirloom weapon". It is a shame we never got Legends rules for boarding shield marines in 40k, as there used to be a Siege Assault Vanguard Force army list in the Imperial Armour books, with tons of tactical marines hiding behind their chunky boarding shields.

The monopose models are from 5th edition box, which was also ultramarines. I think the tell is the cross insignia which i think is the campaign badge for black reach and features on the dreadnought and terminators

So glad you made this video Matthew, I was really hoping you'd do a deep dive into your lamenters army at some point because it just reminds me so much of how I've gone about building my dark angels over the years, which is to say it's got a ton of models that aren't dark angels in it. Whatever dark angels i have were mostly from a couple of dark vengeance sets, and then there's a ton of black reach marines (technically ultramarines due to the molded arrows that you were wondering about btw) and then I've worked in some black templars (relatively similar and a reasonable supplementary source of bits) but also space wolves lol (which is a level of heresy that I wouldn't fault some of you for voicing your disapproval over), but it's exactly as you said, I love them because it's my army and it's got so much character in being this eclectic. Suffice to say i have been adamant about kitbashing and converting as many models as I could, so that's another reason why I really liked getting a good look at the lamenters. As for units you should consider adding, especially now that they're likely to become fairly cheap thanks to them being put to pasture in Legends now....i think some land speeders or bikes would look great in lamenters colours if you like those, or maybe consider a thunderfire cannon or a land raider of some sort? Old school razorbacks are cool too, the ones with the marine manning the turret, especially if you go for the iconic las-plas version. And lastly, I'm on the same boat as you, I'm leaving 40k for OPR or older editions of 40k as far as marines go, my xenos armies they can go on either side but i haven't played a game of 40k in years now, so i can just keep building my terrain and everything else meanwhile for the hell of it. Good work all around and i hope to see additions to this army in the future, cheers!

These are awesome. Saw some amazing lamentors banners in stl form. I think I’ve got the 4th edition starter box with the Tyranids and crashed jet, and the space marines don’t have any extra details past the imperialis symbols on their chests.

I love the checks - I do a lot of these on my Battletech minis, and I can confirm they are a right pain in the bum to do! And don't feel bad, Mr.Predator, it happens to lots of tanks. We can just cuddle and listen to your engine idling.

Great army - the deckplate bases in particular are lovely, there's individuality to them, but at the same time they're all clearly the same 'location'. For what it's worth on the jump packs, no matter how claustrophobic Space Hulk makes it seem (I like to imagine every hulk boarding action since Leviathan came out has failed because the new Terminators just keep getting wedged in doorways), the way the Imperium likes its decor I can easily imagine their spacecraft would feature lots of huge cavernous cathedral-like halls with high vaulted ceilings, so there'd be plenty of room to go jump-packing around in there.

I own a Lamenters army also. Keep up the good work. Yellow is our friend!

1. thats a captain in gravis armour torso 2. you can justify jump packs on boarding actions, they get close to enemy ships that were already hit and have gaps and holes to capture, but you could add a chainfist to open sealed doors

Just last weekend, I stripped the paint off my old 90's Dreadnought, going to repaint it after getting back into tabletop games over the past year (going through my parent's loft was the start of that). I'm going to strip and repaint my old 2e army, my "Lightning Angels" Chapter that I created when I thought that sounded cool as a 14 year old. Gonna go with Blood Angels, they were always cool.

I feel you on Illegal Loadouts, My "Memoirs of Isstvan" Kill team (20 Loyalist Istvaan 3 Survivors 5 World Eaters, 5 Luna wolves, 5 Emperors Children, and 5 Death guard) lost 2 guys when Kill team moved from 2018 to 2021... so yeah I lost my "Smash Captain" (World Eater with Jump Pack and Two chainswords) and a Luna Wolves dude with a Storm Shield and Bolter. But I keep them because they are guys I made who I have fluff for so I just listed them as missing in action and said my team is out to find them.

The snap fit Ultramarine is from Battle for Macragge, 4th edition of wh40k. Classic metal terminators would be a nice addition or some scouts, either the metal ones or the poofy arms, no idea how you'd do checkers on those.

At one point I started to build a Scythes of the Emperor Army based on their story from the Badab War and the Tyrranid Attack Board Game. It was a mostly scout armor with small units of regular space marines, sadly I never finished the army and I had to sell it off.

What a fantastic collection, brilliant paint job. I wouldn't worry about loadouts becoming incompatible with the modern game, if you have friendly games especially with your idea for a Badab war campaign I'm sure everyone will be cool with you running it. My group has always been cool with it if it looks fun and isn't just trying to make OP units.

Regarding the Predator autocannon, a bit of a hack I used to use with them when assembling the turret was to stick a small scrap of paper towel (I think you guys call them kitchen paper) behind the back part of the autocannon that rotates inside the turret. The paper makes it snug and adds some friction to help keep it in place. I recall with already assembled turrets using an exact model knife to push/work the paper towel scrap into that joint. Same with sponson weapons as well. Really loved the metal/plastic Preds for my Chaos Space Marines. Suitably brutal and rough looking, like an easier to build variant that chaos warbands would prefer over the sleeker looking original all-plastic kit.

the 4th edition starterset battle for macragge was with marines that hat clean shoulderpads. The 5th edition starterset attack on blackreach hat marines with the tactical symbol on the right, but nothing on the left. But the painting set in time from blackreach hat 5 models with tactical symbol en ultramarine symbol on them

Excellent yellow scheme, a neat hat tip to the Alan Bligh imperial armour badab war book art. Instead of seraphim sepia, I recently found a 50/50 mix of citadel contrast medium and skeleton horde a less saturated alternative to shading yellow. Eldar transfer sheets are a good source of heart motifs. Micro fine liners (in red and black) rather than a brush, help with precise drawing of freehand graphics. Additional units? Scouts or bikes or **scouts on bikes** or a land speeder? A beautifully crafted army. Liked and subscribed.

Same thing happened to my Vanguard Veterans as well. Their loadout isn't so much as illegal as the weapons have just been genericized into an arbitrary category that's much weaker now. I don't think I'm even going to bother playing 10th at this rate. I felt better about it when I heard you say something to the effect of "the rules change like the wind anyway" in one of your other videos.

I've been working on a 2nd edition Lamenters army for a few years. Freehanding the chequers / bleeding heart symbol was a step too far for me so I opted for some 3d printed / resin cast ones from ebay!

They had molded squad for the tactical squad the up arrow in fifth edition box set. Fourth edition had no moulding on the pads.

Way late to the party on this one, but even with small imperfections, when the whole army is put together like that the checkerboard pattern and hearts are really striking and look great!

Mark VI armour is indeed the best! Awesome video! As far as playing them as an army goes, you might want to try out One Page Rules, Star Breach, Space Station Zero, or any number of great miniatures agnostics rulesets out there which allow for Rogue Trader era models to find a second life (assuming you haven't done so already). My Mentor Legion marines are sticking firmly to their 2nd edition roots and I have no interest in "updating" them for modern editions of 40k.

Nice army. Try to keep them all firstborn as in the new lore the lamenters got reinforced by Primaris but the Primaris don't have the Lamenter geneseed and have regular Blood angels geneseed so they don't suffer from the Lamenter's curse and are just generic yellow marines.
