We covered Whalley Abbey ages ago (crumbling ruins, Abbot Paslew, fishing monks, etc), but there was still the rest of Whalley village to go (ancient church, massive viaduct, Abbot Paslew again, fishing monks, etc). To be honest, the village itself (if you ignore the never-ending traffic and the overpriced newspaper shop) is just as fascinating, if not more so, than the aforementioned abbey bit, so we went back for another gander, because Beacon Fell was closed for refurbishment that weekend and there wasn't much else to do.
