They just said the state paid for 2 arenas (which they might mean the Footprint centre renovations and the Desert Diamond Arena. they could also mean the previous attempts like the one in 2023 that included public funding at some dump site) As for the them park stuff they are talking about bill HB 2274 which would make it easier for the Coyotes to declare the land at auction for theme park district status, remove city input and reduce taxes they have to pay. This would allow the coyote's ownership to add a 9% sales taxes on the arena district to off set costs of building. Maybe someone should look up stuff before the fire back.

@@switchgear100 Here is something you might want to consider before getting on my ass about my last comment. Read what was said by the previous person. The state did NOT pay for the two arenas. They were paid by each municipality. Then it was implied that the Coyotes will screw over the state with this state trust land purchase. That is where I had a problem with it. Secondly, you mention the Tempe proposal that was shot down. I'm fully aware of what was pitched. The Coyotes were asking for the city to share the cost of the remediation, not all of it. Plus a temporary reduction in the property taxes. Which to me they were in a perfectly fine position to ask for it since it was the city's mess to clean it up to begin with. The tax abatement is something nearly EVERY developer gets! But because it is a big bad sports owner, it is always a big problem. It was explained in detail for the public to read, but many did not and just trusted the corrupt Tempe 1st opposition group. All of that was to be paid ONLY ON SITE by those visiting the Tempe Entertainment District and NOT city taxpayers who never set foot on there. When it comes to the "theme park district", yes there are questions that should be asked. Should Alex Meruelo be entitled to it? NO.

@@tombraiderstrums09 I've said this for a few years now. I feel it's the vibe around this ownership group, but the overall franchise carries that which is a bit unfair. Meaning, if a strong new group came in with a strong vision, and the old group was completely out of the picture, support would be at least Dallas-like.

Tempe wanted them. It was the Karen vote that got people to turn down the vote. It made zero sense on their part. All the tax payer was on the bill for was the toxic dump clean up. Which needs cleaned up either way

Yes but this is also the norm in commercial land sales where there's all sorts of sub-zoning where permitted use isn't guaranteed. I just read that there's no 'plan requirements' according to ASLD, but certain utility commitments, so it's more likely the Yotes don't know the order of operations here. My first thought is it's another union-block {edit}' site issue.

I don't know the specifics of this case but I know in my experience, my company tried building an office and warehouse in the Phoenix area but had to go through so much local gov't corruption and bureaucracy that they eventually just gave up and chose New Mexico instead. We have offices/warehouses in 17 states and Phoenix was the only place that getting all the required permits was an issue.

It is completely on Alex Meruelo and his son. They are the ones who didn't care about fans like yourself.

The Coyotes are lucky for the market they played in (which is big because it’s loaded with transplants who are have long standing team allegiances to other places) because that’s the only reason they keep getting chance after chance. Any other league would have pulled the plug and not look back.

Yeah, as much as people are crapping on ownership for this, I'd say ESH except the fans. There's no reason someone in ASLD couldn't have fired off a quick "hey, we know you guys are interested, make sure you get this zoned before the auction" email to someone in team staff before now.

Which should have been figured out by ownership and their legal team a long time ago. This guy is faking moves and just stringing everyone along.

Houston hasn’t really made any progress on that. All the talk by prospective owners there is a bit vague. Elliott Friedman has reported on that s few times. Atlanta appears to be a bit further along with a few competing proposals in the works. So Atlanta is now the front runner, but that could change. The NHL owners would like to be in the biggest markets in the US. Houston, Phoenix and Atlanta are big. But without the right owners, it won’t succeed, so they need to be more cautious than they have been in the past.

⁠@@RJM1693 Houston already has a NHL-sized arena, the Toyota Center. It holds over 17,000 for hockey and its sight lines are good. So, I don’t know what you mean by “hasn’t really made any progress”.
