H Ryan, you are very welcome and thanks for being avid followers of the channel. Honestly I have generally done better at this spot fishing an hour before peak of high tide and fishing the first hour or two of run out tide. Lovely to see you and your daughter out having some fun. She was great in front of the camera, probably have her own channel soon? Some good tips in there, I think it's important that people take their rubbish, including any tags or tangled line, home, or at least put in them in a bin on the way out. I'm amazed at how people manage to carry full bait bags, bottles etc to the fishing spot, but aren't able to carry them back to car to be disposed of properly :-(

Thanks as always Pete. I've caught some amazing fish over the past few months but nothing beats catching a few good fish with your kids. My 8 year old boy caught a 35cm reddie on a soft plastic the other day. His autistic and it was probably my favourite fishing moment of all time. You make some amazing points about people leaving rubbish like bags, line and so on. Ill make sure that I give that a mention in one of my next vids as its very important. I cleaned up the west gate area on clean up Australia day and was amazed at the volume of rubbish.

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 2 жыл бұрын
Hey David, I think the lady in BCF needs to get out a bit more. You can catch fish consistently in all weather conditions. Some of my best days fishing have been in hot sunny and clear days. Overcast can be a huge advantage when lure fishing as you spook fish less but otherwise it shouldn't really matter especially when bait fishing.

Can you use soft plastics there? I usually find it weedy and hard to get the cast distance.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Using soft plastics can be really challenging there as its really snaggy and lots of rocks. Ive caught plenty of fish with plastics but some key tips is just to do a continual slow roll and not let the plastic stay on the bottom for to long, and go on days where the wind is at your back so you can cast further. I can cast a 1/16 jig head 30 or 40 meters easily with the right wind conditions. I hope that helps

Hey mate, just moved to aus from nz and plan to do heaps of fishing since I’ve been wanting to forever , gonna buy my first rod, few things if you can clarify: always keep the line strength less than your rod strength? And baitcasters seem easy to use would you recommend those? Is there a stigma about baitcasters and spin rods like automatic and manual cars or something?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
100% go with a spin rod over a baitcaster. They are so much easier to use and really work better for inshore species in our bays like snapper, flathead whiting etc. For a good allround rod look a something like a 7 foot 2-4 kilo paired with a 2500 size reel and 10lb braid. That will allow you to target heaps of different stuff in both salt and freshwater. We have a members area which has really detailed instructional guides on what gear to get, how to set them up and how to target all of our local species so that might be really helpful to as your starting here. Hope that helps

A lot of the small silver trevally we catch here have those black spots and markings on them. Trevally can also suffer badly from parasites.

Hey Alan, Just wanted to know what time u think is the best to fish there. Is it worth going there at sunset? Or is afternoon still fine?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 2 жыл бұрын
Ive found morning during peak high tide seems to be the best. Im guessing thats because fish will come close in and eat near the rocks.

Hey mate great video! I'm thinking of swapping out my mono for braid to landbase fish at lang lang. Do you think it is worth it? I've never used it before.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel, anytime I fish with lures or soft plastics I 100% use braid. Its so much better for casting accuracy and feeling the bites as it doesn't stretch. When fishing with bait it doesn't matter so much. Braid or Mono will work perfectly fine. I have braid on all my rods, but i used to always have mono on my snapper and whiting bait outfits. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was at Lang Lang caravan park last week. On low tide the water goes out a few hundred meters but on the peak of high tide comes all the way up to shore and can be fished easily. In this case both mono and braid will work fine. For that style of fishing i typically have 20-40 pound braid depending on how heavy i feel like going. I hope that helps

We have gear guides in our members area which helps you make rod and reel choices for each species depending on the style of fishing that you will do across different budgets fishingmad.com.au/member plenty of great spin rods for bream, a massive difference in price points, might be worth having a look at. Usually a 1-3 kilo rod thats 7 foot in length paired with a 2000 size reel is hard to beat for spinning plastics for bream

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Its a strange time of the year as the weather temperature really drops and the pinkies and whiting are a little tougher to catch. usually this time of year ill be targeting squid, flathead and in various reef areas pinkies which can be hard work. However the salmon do come on strong around this time of year and so do the trout in lakes which is probably what ill start doing a bit of soon.

Thanks, not long ago I went down to Warrnambool and fished in the Hopkins river. I was using prawns and I caught a lot of small bream. I then tried out soft plastics but I wasn’t really sure how to use them properly.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Im planning on putting a soft plastics video together in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that. Its funny how bream will sometimes go crazy for a worm or prawn but wont touch a lure and than on other days its the opposite theyll smash lures and not plastics. When starting keep it simple, cast and do a very slow constant retrieve and work your way up from there, buy throwing in some lifts and pauses. Once you start catching a few it comes into its own.

How about setting the hook? Half the time i get caught off guard and react too early 😂 (i fish rod in hand)
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Its a great question Nathan, fishing with the rod in hand is probably the best method as your very unlikely to miss any bites and can react quickly. However I find if your using the right hooks and setup you wont miss to many catches with the rod sitting in the rod holder. These days with baitkeeper and circle hooks the fish will often hook and set themselves.
