Don't make this simple mistake while replacing your water pump and timing belt on the 100 series Land Cruiser..unless of course you hate yourself and like doing things twice.

It’s always a good practice to pre-lube those o-rings, even with a bit of coolant. Did the same when I put a new thermostat in my 2000 Land Cruiser (no silicone anything on the thermostat one tho, don’t worry). Also whenever you change the thermostat dont forget the upper housing the thermostat goes into has an o-ring as well, I had a past mechanic like RTV my old housing in and I broke it. New upper housing from Toyota and my 361k Land Cruiser runs like a top after Timing belt/water pump maintenance!

@Brad Butler Good tips! Funny enough I had put Sil-Glyde on it before hand. I just botched the water pump install by cutting that o-ring.

That's a great tip to put bolts in cardboard to rememeber the pattern w/ different length bolts. Isn't it amazing how much trouble a $1 o-ring or hose can cause?!

Ugghh.. Even with the cardboard I still had one of the studs in the wrong place. Before and after photos are helpful too.

I always put my new water pump above and transfer the bolts, then once the old pump is off I move the bolts back to that one...once you reinstall new one it’s a little less headache😅😂

On this job, I wasn't sure if I was going to need to replace the pump, so waited as long as I could before getting it dirty.

So you put the same damaged o-ring back on? I’m sure you wouldn’t do that. That’s what it looked like though...

Nope, brand new one along with a new Toyota water pump and gasket. Also replaced the other o-ring that comes in the kit.

Haha, just rewatched it and it definitely sounds that way. Haha, sorry and good catch. Don't reuse the old o-ring! Especially not id it's torn like mine was.

Why wouldn't you replace that flogged out O ring? You must like replacing water pumps? Don't forget to prime pump with Coolent!

I had replaced the o-ring on the original job but I somehow pinched/cut it when I put the new water pump in. It started leaking after 1000 miles and is the reason I had to get back in there and made this video.
