I live in a city that doesn't sleep, but I grew up in a town that never wakes. I visit the strange, somnambulent place I used to call home, and examine the way my feelings about it have changed over the years.

Ransom, you're so talented as a filmmaker. You should make the movie of your books yourself, that would just be amazing. Also, Land of Sleep should be the name of your next book.

This was really pensive and captivating. I don't have such a physical concept of home since my childhood and teenagehood were full of moving and relocating, but each place that I've lived is uniquely special to me, and increasingly more so as I grow older. Thanks for the beautiful video.

More than anything I've wanted in quite a while, I want to listen to your recording of an audiobook. Whether it's a book you've written or another one, I want to listen to your voice reading stories to me. The pacing of your words, your inflections, every little detail is so beyond perfect; I want to listen to it forever.

Thanks. I would've read the audiobooks for miss peregrine and hollow city, but I can't do all the crazy welsh accents; it sounds ridiculous when I try. Best to leave it to the pros, for now at least!

I'm so happy i found this channel because everything that comes out of it is amazing and it's like he had all of the words in the world and somehow chose the exact ones that describe what he feels and that is such an amazing talent.

I love everything about this. perfection. it hit me especially hard because I moved around a lot growing up and don't really have anywhere like this to go back to. today I emptied a storage unit full of things from my childhood home, and it felt like I was giving away little pieces of my past that somehow amount to a history when put together. My dad's parents still live in his childhood home though, and I love going back and getting a real feel of what things were like for him when he was young. it's such a beautiful thing to have, I envy you greatly.

So, so beautiful. The visual is a poem in and of itself. But the words are tremendously beautiful, as well. I cannot wait for your new book. You have a way of writing, that is not unlike F. Scott Fitzgerald, in your eloquent and simple way of describing difficult thoughts. Love from a great fan!

It's a funny thing to go back and see where it all started. Things so important seem trivial as time brings into focus what should have always been the important, our families. During your look back I remembered my childhood, the joys, and the loss of times I miss, maybe I just the days when it was OK to play and act silly.Nicely done film, Ransom.

This was beautiful! You inspire me, through your writing, videos, and photography. I hope to travel the world one day to photograph abandoned/forgotten places and show the beauty and story that hide behind them. I'd also like to get into videos. Thank you for sharing your talent and life with us.

My family has planted roots in Venice, FL. I have been returning there for the past 27 years. Unfortunately, life being what it is, I have been unable to visit for the most recent past 5, and I miss the slow quiet of the place. Thank you for sharing this video. I got out my bags of sharks teeth and shells just so I could smell the sand. It's not the same. Time, like the crashing waves, erodes bits of memories from the beaches of our minds, no matter how we try to trap it.

I live in the old homestead in Michigan I grew up in. After living in mega cities I am mesmerized also by the place I live. The quiet, how things that were memories are still real. More devastated when for example a magical childhood tree was stolen and cut down. How her new shoots came back to defy the world. have to leave the house soon as her bones slowly rot, my body does also and we can not care for each other any more.
