The complexity of the Defender should keep Disco 4 prices up. Having had D4s and now the Defender I would say the D4 is the better and more practical vehicle.

I'm surprised, how plastic it is. Also quite disappointing lack of any better sealing for wire connectors. I'd be very disappointed if any short circuit ruin my front sensors or camera due to simple wading. The amount of mud traps inside the car is also not something that I would like to see. Shame on you JLR...

I could understand it if it was made of materials ans designed sufficiently robustly that the clips broke when you pull a part off. As a previous comment said, have a bag of assorted clips on hand, but its the trim parts (expensive) that are breaking and not the clips. Also why on earth do they pick fasteners with four different style heads to hold on one component (hex, torx, slot and crosshead as well as the push rivet plasic ones.)

The emphasis is trying to reduce single use plastic. The plastics used in motor manufacture are easily recycled as well as being pedestrian friendly. Take a look at most modern vehicles and you'll find the front, including the wings are made from plastic

Its also shows that rust wont be so much a problem as this car seems very much built with plastic panels & Plastic Rivets . All the trim/panel poppers/cleats/clips are 1 time only use. Get on ebay and get a big assorted bag before you even think about starting. This is why when you've reversed and pulled the front panel off on a rock/stump/Devon lane, you have to drive home with it hanging like a lame dog. Thank god for zip ties. That side radiator is bewildering! One decent Kangaroo strike and you’ll be completely disabled (obviously not a problem in the rest of the world but it is still quite vulnerable). It looks like it will be hard for the aftermarket (ARB, Ironman, TJM, etc) to create a decent bullbar with a front like that.

I bought one of the last Defenders available late 2015 thinking I would get the new one when it arrived. Haha, absolutely no chance. Not mine but friends who have working Defender's use them to open field gates, nudge Bull's around, push and pull general stuff etc. etc. Can you imagine the state of this new plastic SUV after just a few months of work. I would agree but plastics technology and production (depending on money) today is of excellent quality. Compare that to a Series 3 grille and you’ll see how far LR has come with plastics. There are places that should remain steel or aluminium but for the most part plastic is a good, durable, light weight choice.

From what you have found, it seems LR need to have a rethink of the information they are issuing for the removal of parts/panels. Too many missed screws/clips/etc, and to think that the instructions would have been proof read and approved prior to distribution. Showing us the "official" way and the "Tyler cheat" is going to make these tasks much easier for others to follow. Thank goodness I'm not a drinker otherwise I'd be to drunk to watch the video through to the end 🤪😂

We used to run the LR Experience Discoveries and RRs without the plastic recovery eye cover. However they were quick to remove and didn't leave such a big and obvious hole at the bottom of the car. In the Defender, with the cover removed it looks like something's fallen off. My point before was that people don't think they're going to get stuck until they are - at which point removing 4 fine thread bolts that far under the car will be mildly irritating! Better to have a neat-looking solution permanently in place. LR sell a 5mm aluminium replacement with a hole in it (essentially a bash plate) but it's £840! (+ VAT?). Approach angle isn't going to be the problem for all but the most extreme cases so I doubt anyone needs the extra strength. We just need a modified plastic version with a hole in it. I might have to take the saw to mine.

I know what people are thinking, it's just a load of plastic. I own a 2016 Toyota Hilux and it is exactly the same, it's all plastic as well. It's a heap of puny plastic clips that just break even if you look at them. Modern legislation for pedestrian impact protection and crash safety cell etc kind of dictates what happens at the front. When M-B re-design the G-Wagon they will have to adhere to the same legislation.
