Thank you for posting this!! I got my wood grain side panel/hockey sticks in today for my defender. I went to take off the original ones (thinking it would be fairly easy) when the entire panel came off! I wasn’t expecting that 😅 Now I can go back and carefully do it properly, knowing it is suppose to come off that way. THANK YOU!!!! Love your videos.

Having replaced the center console with the wood grain bits, this video reminds how unnecessarily difficult this was - you did well, I broke far more clips. There is no reason why those hockey sticks should be this difficult! What’s also interesting, with the side panel/hockey sticks off you can also see it would be possible to upgrade your center console to a cooler too.

Another great video Simon. Spec the “woodalike” finishers on your Defender and LR wants £355 for 5 pieces of suspiciously cheap looking injection moulded plastic, probably not even made from recycled coffee cups, cola bottles or fishing nets. Even Mercedes, the Koreans and Chinese make more convincing fake wood that at least looks oiled/ varnished. My 1st RRS came with “cherrywood” hockey sticks that had razor sharp edges that cut your finger tips - at least no chance of splinters! The LR Defender woodalike must cost less than £1 a piece to make so Simon if you can get the in at around £50 a set then you’ll still,be making a bit of profit! I think I’ll give them a miss though until some real bits of tree become available (and probably still cost less than £355 a set…..). LR rips off the customers again.

Hi Tim - I was actually quite taken with the walnut wood and the rough sawn finish but I agree they are not that cheap. The hockey sticks are over £300 each but I am still waiting for these to come so I can see why they are so expensive... I think some people will opt just to upgrade the door pulls ! I was thinking of buying a CNC router and making some real wood accessories for the interior...

@@L663 Simon, I’ll keep and eye out for the real wood ones then. When LR does real wood in their cars it does it well (L322RR’s had lovely finishers). My Freelander 1 I added a set of beautiful (well to me beautiful!) real Walnut wood finishers I bought on line from a company called Seattle Wood Company IIRC and including shipping from USA cost

Thank you Simon! I've had my new Defender for 2 weeks and I've spent untold hours getting caught up on your videos! I would love to see these trim pieces in real carbon fiber(e). I also just bought a dash cam and am looking forward to the release of the loom. (I just want it to only power on/off with the ignition ). So many cool mods! Thank you again!!

@@L663 Alcantara and you could also work out a way to change the colour of the steering wheel spokes to those of the V8. I have a Freelander 2 therefore any more content coming on the FL2 ……particularly roof racks, what’s available, how do you fit etc. Can you buy adaptor feet to fit an existing Thule roof bar for instance, that was on another car. I think you can get some that fit into the roof channels but quality may be variable? Thanks for all the things you do on the Channel. Tim in Cirencester

@@timskelton2125 Hi Tim - the Freelander 2 roof rack is a paint to fit and not that great - I need to look at other options - we need to be a little careful as we get into the realm of putting loads onto roofs etc.

Another superb and informative video - thanks. But I don't thing the walnut finish looks very good on your car with the colour of the seats you have. That finish would go better with different seat colours. Though I think the "black oak" finish would look good in your car as it will not clash with the seat colour.

Hello Simon…colours…how about brushed silver, the newly popular Arun gold (Porsche wheels), sea washed oak..so grey/white beachfront sort of colour, desert sand finish…..hard to judge what will sell in sufficient numbers but carbon fibre seems to be ever popular! Go careful with the marketing!!😬😀😀
